Freedom- fact or fiction?

Are we as Americans truly free? Or is freedom an illusion used to pacify? What does freedom mean in our country, and how are the principles of freedom applied? Has this changed over time?

"free·dom ( P ) Pronunciation Key (frdm) n. The condition of being free of restraints. Liberty of the person from slavery, detention, or oppression.

Political independence. Exemption from the arbitrary exercise of authority in the performance of a specific action; civil liberty: freedom of assembly. Exemption from an unpleasant or onerous condition: freedom from want. The capacity to exercise choice; free will: We have the freedom to do as we please all afternoon. Ease or facility of movement: loose sports clothing, giving the wearer freedom. Frankness or boldness; lack of modesty or reserve: the new freedom in movies and novels.

The right to unrestricted use; full access: was given the freedom of their research facilities. The right of enjoying all of the privileges of membership or citizenship: the freedom of the city. A right or the power to engage in certain actions without control or interference"

  • Freedom is false.

I personally believe that we do not have true freedom in America, or anywhere on this earth. True freedom is synonymous with anarchy. To be free is to be unrestrained by laws. As long as my country disallows me to do something, ANYTHING, I am not free.

Now, I do not regard this false freedom as BAD. I realise that a system of law and legislature is absolutely and completely necessary to run a country. Without them, chaos and anarchy immediately overwhelm.

However, I wonder why people are content to be told that they have something they do not have. Do our soldiers fight for freedom in wars? Yes and no. They fight for an individual sort of freedom. The freedom from oppression by THOSE THAT ARE NOT ALREADY OPPRESSING YOU.

Again, I do not use oppression (at least, the second time I typed it) in a negative way. I just think that there are so many different types of freedom, and in the purest sense of the word, we do NOT have it. All the different sorts of freedom have been blended together to create the pseudo-free nation in which we live.

  • Freedom...yea right.

Freedom is something the government cooked up so only the ignorant minds believes. But anyone that struggle to get what theirs should knows freedom is just as real as Santa. Freedom is just something to believe in nothing more nothing less.
