Marijuana usage does not increase risk of Cancer

According to this study- the largest of it's kind, Marijuana usage is not a contributing factor (even amongst heavy users) to causing cancer.

Personally this strikes me as very odd as i was under the impression that smoking anything raises the risk of cancer, but I could be wrong.

  • I have read many studies

Have seen a few mis-leading ones around also. It is the nicotene specifically, that mutates cells in the body. These cells eventually become permanently dependent on the narcotics effects. Tars are in both Cigarettes and Marijuana alike. Marijuana Has never been linked to any single case of cancer, or birth defects.

WEYDON: the blunt wrap is a natural tobacco leaf in some cases(not all) and tobacco residue, is sometmes left behind in the wrap. Guess this depends on the care taken by the roller.

  • I knew it

A couple months back someone showed me a study that suggested the opposite, which I was shocked by. It was a fairly respectable source I suppose, but I found NO other sources that backed this study and no other study that ever agreed with it.

I'm not that surprised. It's possible it could cause some respiratory problems, but the cancer is mostly caused by the tobacco and tars in cigarettes. The worst you get is when you cut open a cigar and use that for a wrap, since it could still have some toxic residue on it. Similarly (and obviously), some people like to mix tobacco in their splifs and pipes, and this also can cause some damage.

  • WTF?

What are you talking about? Of course it doesn't cause cancer! Look at the contents of a cigarette for example and you'll know that. Also taking in account the cell research and what causes cancer, Besides cancer is not what they're worried about. it's only their scare tactic, something you can relate to. Marijuana screws you up in so many other ways it's not even funny. So for those who breathed a sigh of releif at this and puffed away have fun if you get older.

  • I honestly think....

I honestly think that smoking mary jane doesnt cause cancer. My dad works in the hospital as a C.T. technichain, he says that it can cause cancer... but i think that the reason why he told me that was cause he didnt want me to smoke it.... haha too late now... but i dont think it can...

  • street versus farm

The AMA thinks otherwise, and honestly I've yet to see (or smoke) a joint that came with a filter on it. And having gone a couple months without blazing the trees I feel much better and cough a lot less. It is entirely possible that by controlling the entire process from growth to inhalation a totally pure and therefore cancer free smoke could be had, but the amount of handling that goes on insures the product cannot be 100% natural. I would certainly hope that thc is not a carcinogen, but it is more than likely that something in the pot causes mutations.

  • Lung Cancer and Eating

I think That you can get lung cancer from smoking a carcinogen. I dont think THC is one but maybe one of the other "inactive" chemicals is. This is true with anything unless it is pure. Crystal THC smoked or injected might not give you cancer i guess if this was true and cancer would only be caused by the chemical changes on the Leaf to smoke and ressin in the lungs. If you Eat marijuana do you get stomach cancer because the THC goes into your Bloodstream there, I dought it. The burning into smoke chemical change I think Is the key to why I believe that smoking ahh anything really could give you cancer if there are carcinogens present..
