I read somewhere that the truth was the biggest lie that we people believe in. What do you think about this?

God also says the truth is, I Am.28% Voted for by frndofyaweh, littleoneof-God, Kizzy Kat, Auxiliar.
God said; I Am, That, I Am. God is the ultimate truth and all others sprout from Him. That is where your quote originated by the way.

Disquotation Theory of TruthVoted for by GaryCGibson.
Strawson's disquotation theory of truth set up the idea that 'truth' is a way of abbreviated a long list of corresponding confirmation about some state of affairs as being so or not.
Saying God is the ultimate truth is saying that God is the source of everything at some point, or a,b,c,d,e,f,g,h, etc. are so infinitely and from God.

TruthVoted for by Konstantine.
"The truth is rarely pure and never simple" - Oscar Wilde
"Knowledge is torture, and there must be awareness before there is change" - Jim Starlin
truth, in essence cannot exist more than once. There is one essential truth that all other truths sprout from. What is that truth? I believe that should be the choice of the individual. Possibly, "I am." Because there is no absolute about the future, and how do we honestly know that the past happened? Because we remember? We could be programmed to remember, maybe we Just came into existance. So, the present is all we have, but the thing about the present is that by the time you get there, it's gone. So, for me, truth is "I am."
And what you say about the truth being the biggest lie people believe in. I agree, because most of the time "the truth" is really only the populace belief, and has no proof of reality to it. For example, all religion.

"The truth will set you free"
Why do we supppose the truth can do this?
If truth does, always set you free, then that is the proof we seek.

"Knowledge is torture, and there must be awareness before there is change" - Jim Starlin
----------------------------------------------
Knowledge is witness and witness is emotionally draining, may be what Jim means there. Too bad he missed the final ingredient; God is the strength that replaces that drain.
For me sorrow and tragady are heart felt, but Father energizes me with a new day, every day.

what it's notVoted for by slder4crst.
if there is one thing about truth that i know, is that it's not relative. truth may be interpreted, but the interpretation may not always be true.

THE NATURAL TRUTH IS THE PAST AND PRESENTVoted for by likewhatitis100.
The natural truth is what happened and what is happening. So, naturally speaking what will happen is never true until it has happened or until it is happening.
The spiritual truth is what will happen. When it is happening or has happened it will become the natural truth.

The Truth Is Out There?Voted for by A Nobody.
Trust No One?
It is entirely possible that none of what we perceive is true. This is all an illusion, or at least I pray to God that it is. Of course I acknowledge and revere the beauty that exists around us and the wondrous things that humans are capable of. Those "truths" only serve to upset the butterflies that reside here in my stomach. When all is said and done I ask myself, "Is this all there is?" ...to life ...to the world
The answer for me must be a resounding NO. There is a form of life, and of conciousness that none of us are aware of now. A state of true peace where that one little hole inside of us is completely filled. We spend this life trying to fill it with addictions, obsessions, co-dependencies, and if we're lucky we try to fill it with art, writing,...
I hope with every fiber of my being that there is a place where we are all perfect and we don't even know what that means. Maybe life is just a lucid dream. We've woken up inside this dream and to some extent we can influence what happens. Oh, and all this stuff sitting around - these "cars" and "clothes" and such - we don't really own any of it. We're just using it until we wake up.

discoveredTruth is discovered, not invented. It exist independent of anyone's knowledge of it. ie. GravityVoted for by ragman.
Truth is trancultural; if something is true, it is true for all people, in all places, at all times. ie. 2+2=4 for everyone, everywhere, at every time.
Truth is unchanging even though our beliefs about truth change. ie. when we began to believe the earth was round instead of flat, the truth about the earth didn't change, only our belief about the earth changed.
Beliefs cannot change a fact, no matter how sincerely they are held. ( Someone can sincerely believe the world is flat, but that only makes that person sincerely mistaken.)
Truth is not affected by the attitude of the one professing it. (An arrogant person does not make the truth he professes false. And a humble person does not make the error he professes true.)
All truths are absolute truths. Even truths that appear to be relative are really absolute. For example "I ,Rick, feel hungry right now on Dec. 7,2006 @4:11 pm" may appear to be a relative truth, but it is actually absolutely true for everyone, everywhere that Rick had the sensation of hunger on that day @ that time.
So contrary beliefs are possible, but contrary truths are not possible. We can believe everything is true but we cannot make everything true.

The point is
that there is no point. You can't live in the present (the only reality) while looking for a point to it. The process of looking takes one away from the experience of being. The past is not real. It is a memory. The future is not real. It is an idea. If one is living in the past or future they are living by memory or ideas. Memory changes through analysis of one's present. "It seemed at the time to be like this, but now I've changed my mind on it". While analysing the present you are not really experiencing the present. You are only spending thought on changing one's mind or memory of the past and then changing one's ideas about the future. The NOW is lost. This is why some meditate in a silent vacuum. This form of meditation is a symbolic gesture because living NOW is to meditate on every moment without the need for vacuum conditions.December 7, 2006
