“I stumbled upon a mystery without a solution, a mystery so immense that I gave up trying to find an explanation because the whole mystery defied belief. The mystery was the survival of the Jews…I couldn’t understand how these people had endured as the great people they were…”
My topic is based on this quote I picked up from a book recently. I want to know two things: Which is the oldest surviving tribe in the world? Which is the oldest surviving country in the world?
I don’t believe the answers are obvious; there are so many tribes that are not necessarily popular or well known as the Jews for example. I hope that this is a learning experience especially as I hope to hear from people all over the world.
Please do not turn this into a tribal issue or worse still a religious one, this isn’t about whose tribe s better or anything like that? So if you happen to know of any old tribes, and an old country please submit them.

Sumer is oldestVoted for by nanrek.
No! Sumer in present Iraq is the oldest (3500 BC) and Egypt is next (3100 BC). Abraham, the founder of the Jewish nation, didn’t leave Sumer until 2000 BC

why are you so ignorantVoted for by jackgillespie.
that is a dumb question your coming from the ignorant standpoint of a christian who has read no historical text other than the bible. Go do some research there are dozens of cultures and yeligions that predate the very EXISTENCE of Christianity. In addition Christianity stole many of it's books from other cultures to draw people in from other cultures so that they could control as many people as possible. That is why most of the old testament is jewish text. that is why the oldest book of the bible is a sumerian tale. In addition to the book of Job, the concept of a part god part human offspring was also stole from the Sumerians. The whole judeochristin mythos is pre date by many centuries by eastern religions and many other regional religions that were wiped out by people from one branchof christians or another. There is much more to this but I'll stop there. Go take a college level history class.

here we go, im not really adding anything :PVoted for by Cornilius.
I'm pretty sure that the oldest 'civilization' is egypt, but the oldest 'tribe' would be the bushmen, or, arguably, the indigeneous people of australia.

one of the oldest tribes
Bushmen/San are one of the oldest tribes still around today. The 'Bushmen' are the oldest inhabitants of southern Africa, where they have lived for at least 20,000 years. Their home is in the vast expanse of the Kalahari desert. The Bushmen had their homelands invaded by cattle herding Bantu tribes from around 1,500 years ago, and by white colonists over the last few hundred years. From that time they faced discrimination, eviction from their ancestral lands, murder and oppression amounting to a massive though unspoken genocide, which reduced them in numbers from several million to 100,000. Today, although all suffer from a perception that their lifestyle is 'primitive' and that they need to be made to live like the majority cattle-herding tribes.July 22, 2006

Atlantis & Lemuria
If you wanted to go out there on a limb, since there is such controversy over this topic, you can say that Lemuria (an older version of Atlantis) would be the oldest. It is reputed to be the Garden of Eden or other first Paradise--where all humanity began. Bibles would probably not reject this because most speak of a such a place! They say those from Lemuria moved to Atlantis some 20 to 30 thousand years ago during the Ice Age. The Flood (pervading all or most all religions) is supported to be the fall.
