why do people refer to god as he/him or even in some cases she/her

why do people, when we know that god has no gender, refer to god as he or him or she or her. i mean god isnt even an It. god just is. so why do we give god a gender.

  • heres one reason

Jesus refered to God , as his Father ,I dont know about you , but in a biological since I have not encountered to many female , nor genderless fathers.I am quite aware the women , feminists in particalar, dont like this much , but then , who do we seek to convince? Man, or God? It was not given unto man to serve woman , by suporting her opinions ,niether catering to her emotions, but rather to be the head of the body and as such come to the final disission in our positions,Woman is a helpmeet, not a determiner of what needs to be, she is to help a man in his endevors, not determine what those endevors are.

  • Great answer Dwn!

Did I say you were a smart cookie? i think I did.

Solomon writes more about the virtuous wife. I believe the wife is her husbands promoter, in a sense.

But I also believe that no head should do what the body is not prepared for. Communication to the wife is part of a mans/husbands virtues.

  • He/She

God represents the idea of a consciousness affecting the world external to humanity.

God is referred to as He in some mythological systems, because its history traces back to a hunting people, as most herding people are. This mentality rejects transformation of the individual, but rather celebrates the action of the individual. Also, this is a logocentric tradition that traces back to what is usually called "patriarchy."

A people decide to prefer calling God She when it is based on gathering people, who later become agricultured peoples. The emphasis is on the transformations that bring all peoples together across all strata, through the transformation of seed into crop through the magic of the earth. This is based on the perceptions of the aesthetic experience that unfolds in stages towards human beings.

  • God Doesn't exist

There is no proof that a God exists, and I choose not to believe in one until someone can offer me proof. For all the people on here who have said that I need to be prove that he doesn't exist - that is ridiculous. Any scientist knows that you must prove the existence of something, not it's non-existence. I look at the world from a logical viewpoint and I see no evidence of a deity. In my opinion, a debate about the sex of a non-existent being is a moot point, just as discussing the colour of a deity's eyes etc... would be.

  • He and Him

Capitalized when referring to "Him". Him as in, masculine pronoun and actually has NOTHING to do with male or female.

Angels are the same in this. non-sexual beings. All angels are not necessarily masculine in appearance nor female. Angels in the Bible are called a-sexual meaning never having sex.

God is the same in that masculine entities are powerful, awesome in appearance.

No real he and she involved here.

  • God is a Person?

Can a philosphy and representation of the "right" way to live life (also known as god) really be in comparsion to a person. I think calling god him or her is from someone who is misinterpreting what god truly is and instead invisioning them as some type of super person who rules like a peaceful dictator.

You give an intelligent answer, with all the correct observations that science teaches us. Too bad it lacks wisdom. without wisdom; no one bothers to listen.

  • Bilble Times

If you look at the time period in which the bible was written, men ruled over women. So naturally God became a man.

  • God has dual characteristics

On every level of life from the subatomic level until to human beings, there are dual characteristics of negativity and positivity, male and female, and man and woman. This is because God, the creator, made it that way in resemblance to 'His' aspects. God has both male and female characteristics. We call God a 'him' because he is subject over this world. In our families, it is globally accepted that the man is the 'leader' or subject of the family, and this is the natural way that God intended. Thus, in the same way, God became 'Him' because He is the subject over this global human family, and the rest of creation.

  • God's Mother is a SHE

The West has been taught about God, and indeed God IS A HE. What the East has been teaching is about God's Mother. She is nameless, but various names have been introduced to refer to Her: emptiness, Tao and without form.

  • God's infinite
As an infinite, boundless being, your God can't possibly be confined to one biological sex because It surely transcends such categorisation. Your God is, surely, both male and female and everything in between -and- none of the above, all simultaneously.

She does, however, spend most of her time as this beautiful, beautiful Vietnamese woman. Trust me, I'm a philosophy student.
