Bipolar. Is it not possible to control yourself?

The point in being called "bipolar." No such thing.

  • wow...

hm... if you've read up on this dissorder than perhaps this topic wouldnt have been posted. bipolarism is a nervous disorder, or a mood disorder. people with bipolarism fling in and out of moods almost instantly. someone can be happy one moment and then the next will hate the world. when there's something wrong like that that's going on in your mind you have no control over that. most people with bipolarism do grow out of it but the others are stuck with medications becuase if they dont grow out of it and they dont get medication they run the risk of developing mani depressive illness or more severe bipolar conditions: commonly known as bipolar axis 1 and 2 etc.

you cant just expect someone to stop that kind of thing.

  • The MInd is very complex

Who pitched this? The idea of being bipolar as merely a state of mind is exactly right. If you have ever known a bipolar person you'd know that this is not true. No matter what state of mind you're in this horrible disease makes you do horrible things even to those you love. Sure there have been cases where they 'out grow' bipolarism or so it would seem But for those who can't they have medication.

  • If you knew....

I wish you could experience a mental dissorder for just a day. It's not simple to control. You know how emotions can control your body when something sad happens, and you can't help but cry. Or when you get nervous and you get butterflies or your lip trembles...mental diseases have the same control over a persons action. They can't be avoided just by will, it takes years of hard work, and in some, medication too. There's no way to reasonably say that bipolarism doesn't exist.

  • The importance of nutrition

I think the importance of nutrition is overlooked in discussions about bipolar. There is quite a lot of evidence that a deficiency of omega 3 fatty acids in the diet is a cause of bipolar. This is believable to me, especially since as a society we have taken to eating grain fed beef. It used to be most cattle ate grass, but in the last 50 years the preferred feed is corn, because it makes the animals grow bigger. Grass fed beef is rich in omega 3 fatty acids which are key to proper brain function. Corn fed beef is rich in omega 6, but deficient in omega 3. Many people today get their omega 3 from eating lots of fish, but it used to be you could get it from beef. This might explain the rise in the incidence of bipolar.

There are other nutritional factors that influence bipolar which I won't discuss here. One thing I find, though, is that some/many bipolar people are more intrgued with their condition than getting over it (I find this to be true with many people who have certain conditions today). Many pooh pooh the evidence on nutrition and don't even make a concerted effort to give it a good try. They seem to prefer being victims of a disease than becoming victorious over it.
