Okay people I have a boyfriend and we love each other very much but the messed up thing about it is that mental probelms run through his family. His mother is very mental to the point where she would attack you. His father is also mental and a few others in his family to. He is not crazy though thank god but I wanna know if our kids might come out like that. What do you guys think please real comments.

Hey,
I read this and i had to respond...there is no right answer to this question...there is a possibility that they could be fine and not affected..however there is a higher chance of it affecting your children because it does run on his side of the family...even doctors wont be able to tel..there will no way to know if your children will be affected by a mental dissorder until they show sings or it happens. I hope this helped you a little bit...good luck. and I hope everything works out for all of you.

In todays society it is almost imposable to have a family without some sort of "mental illness" we have doctors , psychiatrists, and psycologists, all making up names that fit the bill for all manner of lack of self disciplin and self controll, ask yourself, first, is this a form of retardation, or simply leaning on another crutch excuse , if it is the latter , your kids should be fine, just raise them expecting consequinces for actions

Is the risk worth the possibility?
I would never risk the heartbreak of bringing a child into the world with a serious mental disorder. Life is hard enough for the so-called "normal" people. Having had a child who later developed full-blown paranoid schizophrenia that never responded to any medication or treatment, I can tell you that there is nothing as devastating as a broken mind. It robs you of your very being. It is still little understood, and the general masses can be terribly cruel to the mentally ill and their strange behavior. It not only affects the person who is mentally ill, but all of his/her extended family.
Keep in mind that some mental illnesses do not manifest themselves until the child is older, teens or young adulthood. I watched my brilliant, beautiful daughter deteriorate into the depths of Hell because of her broken mind. As much as I love her, I truly believe death is preferable, and I do not say that lightly.
Nobody in my immediate family had mental illness that I was aware of, but in doing some research I found that my grandmother had been institutionalized before I was born. It was the "family secret" nobody talked about. I wish I had been armed with the knowledge of what lurked in my family genes before I started a family.
If you talk to your doctors and find there is a high risk you will produce a mentally ill child, I implore you to reconsider plans for having children.
