There were provissions in the constitutoin and bill of rights in the founding of this country, that guarrenteed the presumption of inocence, the right not to be forced to contract, to be left alone if no probable cause existed, or was appearent, When what we have now is a system that says if you are detained or arrested , you are guilty, (even thouh most of us have seen police coruption first hand.Law after law after law created for no other purpose tan to appear as probbable cuase. Companies like insurance agencies legislating thier profits , then scamming out of paying . most claims, and laws saying that you arent forced to contract with them , all you have to be is filthy rich enough to back yourself, (I say that in fact the poor are forced to contract ) The right to free travel, (laws prohibiting foot trafic from the sides of highways effectively trapping those who cannot aford automobiles in the states they are stuck in.)I could go on and on....WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE!!, THIS HAS TRUELY BECAE THE UNITED STATES OF APATHY

Democratic Apathy
Your points are well taken. Consider that a recent poll found that 3 of 4 Americans can name the three stooges yet 3 of 4 Americans couldn't name the three branches of Government.
***
The main weakness of democracy is that the people eventually don't care and it descends into tyranny or dictatorship (in Aristotle's politics).
