Bible Study

For the sake of us heathens, what would you recommend to start off with in terms of studying the bible? Also, what would you consider to be verses that ought to but don't find their way into philosophical debate?

  • Bible 101

Bible reading is an act of grace of the Holy Spirit of God. With that in mind one may just open a bible and start reading anyplace.

The synoptic gospels are those by three disciples called by Jesus and that of a probably physician named Luke. The books describe much of the works of Jesus yet aren't set out as a history composition although they are historical. Instead these books bring together much of the early missionary writing of the early church of the first century that were circulating and assembled under the authority of the remaining living disciples.

The apostle Paul was an early persecutor of Christians converted to the faith by direct intervention of God who suffered quite a lot before being martyred at Rome in pursuit of giving people the word of God and His Son Jesus Christ.

It is quite practical to get a small Gideon’s bible and keep it with you always referring to it anyplace you open it and reading as much as possible...eventually you will cover everything, yet the book isn't ever exhausted.

Keep in mind regarding secular churches that there is a difference between a priesthood of believers and a temple hierarchical career priesthood. Much of the contemporary church is modeled upon a pre-Christian hierarchical priestly structure, isn't very egalitarian and won't ask you to do much more than sit or dance from a pew and tithe once or twice a week. These people aren't necessarily bad, just not innovative enough. An automobile or solid employment is required at many non-priesthood of believers churches (priesthood of believers existed only in the early church period and perhaps in the Quaker community too but none in a modern form).

Read the Bible and have faith in God and not mankind for eternal salvation.

  • You need not look farther...

Your computer has tons of bible study sights for all ages, most with advice giving people eager to help in any situation. You dont have to pick up the actual Bible first at all. Pick up a daily devotional. It takes you through several "not well known" verses and describes them in great detail, often giving you a personal example or history lesson to back it up.
