What is the purpose of The Sun Also Rises!

I had to read Hemingway's THE SUN ALSO RISES for school and for hte life of me can see no real purpose to this book. THe Great Gatsby had purpose even. But this book seems to have no further purpose that to tell of a group of expatriots who go to Spain watch some bulls and are drunk for the vast majority of the book! Please if there is someone out there who actually liked this book tell me why!

    That's it. The purpose of the book is to show you that life has no purpose. I liked it because it taught me to lighten up and drink wine, which I started to do after I read this Hemingway book. It also inspired me to travel to Europe. I'm not so special, the sun also rises every morning to seize the day.
