Teen Suicides Linked to Witchcraft wsbt ^ | 08/31/04 Posted on 08/31/2004 7:51:18 AM PDT by hoosierboy (WSBT) Two teenage girls from Knox are dead and police say witchcraft was involved. Investigators say thirteen-year-olds Sarah Casey and Debra Jean Kawaguchi stepped in front of a train Saturday near County Roads 800 East and 200 South. Starke County Police say the girls took their lives because they thought they would be reincarnated. Now, police say they're investigating just how deep this cult goes in the community, and they're asking outside experts for help. Investigators say Casey and Kawaguchi got involved in WICCA, a form of withcraft, and the girls believed by committing suicide they would be reincarnated. "We are going to talk to students to see if they know anything and to see if anybody else if involved," says Starke County Sheriff Bob Sims. Friends of the victims at Knox Middle School say they know of other students who have also participated in what is sometimes called a religion. "In school, I just had a girl tell me that she practiced witchcraft with them," says classmate Darienne Griffith. Police are now looking for answers into a practice they didn't know even existed in their community. WICCA is said to have a deep respect of nature and spirituality, but apparently doesn't condone suicide.

The Wiccan Rede40% Voted for by Ravenblood, plenty of paper.
I am also of the wiccan faith and I have to say that I found the term "sometime" religion a bit offensive as well. Also, may I say that the wiccan rede is "do as you will, but harm none" anyone who researches the wiccan faith would have found this out. "Harm None" also means not to harm yourself.

IgnoranceVoted for by Weydon.
Right now it's just a case of mild ignorance. It's easily translated to: The girls wanted to go to heaven so they killed themselves. Skewed beliefs from young, depressed girls.
But the cops in the area obviously don't know much about Wicca so they were looking into it. Seeing who practiced this skewed version with the girls is only responsible, and I would do the same thing.
As long as they don't start a (rather ironic) witch hunt, I see no problem.

Offensive???Voted for by Energizer Bunny.
I see nothing offensive about it. Two teen girls died and the police are investigating it. Police investigate deaths everyday.

Also, would they be investigated if they were Christian, or Jewish, or Buddhist? Hm?
