did you know you only use 10-20% of your brain?

Think about it!what if we used 100% of are brain and not 10 or 20%.

  • Brain? What brain???

Have anyone of you ever watched the news? There are tons of people who don't have a brain. In fact, my son is one of them. Just the other day I was sitting down to a nice BIG turkey club sandwitch. And as I was sitting there my son was just staring at me. Finally he asked if he could have a bite. Well, be the terrible father I am (like my father before me), I said no. He said ok, and ran off to play. Well about 20 mins later I was take another wonderful bite, the door bell rang. So I got up to get the door, and I come back and he was eating my sandwich. I said "Hey, didn't I tell you that you couldn't have any of my sandwitch?" He said "Uh huh." So I said, "then why are you eating my sandwitch?" He replyed " I don't know." Then he ran off again. So once again I sit down and enjoy my sandwitch. Then about 5 mins later the phone rings and I get up to get it, and come back (still on the phone), and there is my son, eating my damn sandwitch! So, once again, I say to him. "DIDN'T I SAY YOU COULD NOT EAT MY SANDWITCH???" And he said "uh huh." And I said, "THE WHY ARE YOU EATING MY SANDWITCH???" And of course he said, "I don't know." So what does this have to do with anything??? Well, honestly I am not sure, because I forgot. So that must mean that my son and myself are using less then the 10 to 20% of our brain. I guess I need to go to Walmart and purchase some "Focus Factor." It's suppose to help improve your brain right?

  • Always

Of course every part of your brain is used. Why would it be there otherwise? Through evolution thousands of years ago other parts of brains were formed that COULD read minds and move objects and other fancy things, but until we figure out how to use them they just sit there dead? Everything is used.

At any given moment we are only using certain parts of our brains. The part to concentrate on typing this, read that, listen to this, feel that, eat that, swim, tackle, seduce. It's simply unneeded and physically impossible to have your brain use every function at once.

  • I do believe

Most of this unused brain is empty storage space, that, in most humans, never gets used up because we don't live long enough, and our brain starts to deteriorate before this could happen anyway. Our brain is very efficient at sorting and filing important information and getting rid of the suppposed uneeded information.

Can you remember your first day of school? Most likely. Now, try and remember your eleventh, twenty first and eighty seventh day of school. Almost impossible. This is because it is regarded as unimportant, and, the information, having not passed from short memory to long term memory, is discarded.

The brain can hold something like 12 tetrabytes of information (or more). This is a very large amount of storage space. This may account for the 80% unused brain matter.

Watch the movie Powder. Provides a fictional account of a boy who can use a much larger part of his brain.

  • Completely false

The "10% of your brain" idea is actually a misconception of an experiment done by Karl Lashley in the 1920's. He systematically removed portions of rats' brains and had them run a maze; he found that he could get their brains down to ten percent of their original mass and still be able to complete the maze. Someone, somewhere, decided that this meant we only used ten percent of our brains, and it was repeated in the media so often that people took it as fact. Ever wonder why brain surgery is so dangerous? Because there are many, many parts of the brain that, if disturbed or removed incorrectly, can have devistating affects on our ability to function.

  • not true at all

There are unused portions of the brain, but they are in the minority, not the majority. No one uses all of their brain at once, and you would be correct if you said that people generally only use 10-20% of their brain at once on average. The fact is, if you were to watch a brain on an MRI scan you can see which parts of the brain are being used and which parts of the brain are not being used. Its pretty cool and from observing these I can tell you, we have the capability to use a lot more of our brain than 20%.

  • Use of brain

It is not true that people only use 10 or 20% of their brain. Most of our brain is used to regulate body functions, store information, process incoming sensations, and formulating responses.
