  • early 90's American music

    distinct from hip-hop, punk, metal, and from the British music scene. The emphasis was usually placed on stream-of-consciousness (Erlebnis) lyrics, and winding melodies in its most recognized classics. Occasionally, as with the album "In Utero," there were reversions back to more garage-style formats. Drums and either acoustic or electric guitar are standard, bass is optional.
