Why are Christians always trying to "save" somebody?

I've especially been reading it in the early settlement of America. I am disgusted by their accounts that Native Americans were savages, barbarians, etc. It's just so irritating.

And it never ended. Today, across the globe their are Christians trying to force their beliefs down people's throats - tempting them with things that should be given with no strings attached.

They're all lurking around this website, trying to "save" homosexuals from their lives.

There are some who keep to themselves and have their own faith, but a majority are out there doing this "saving".

  • My apologies

First of all, I want to personally apologize for those who may have offended you or even if I may have offended you. And I want you to know that my goal not just as a Christian but a follower of Christ is not to convert anyone, but to spread and defend the truth. It’s only up to you whether you want to accept the truth or not.I can understand your frustration toured others (or even me) who are too forward with what they believe. What someone says may be true, but I believe that if you cannot express something with love, wisdom and understanding it should not expressed at all.

  • Will you remain locked up?

Well there are different ways of looking at this. I, myself, am a Christian. I have been my whole life. People who come across in a way that says "You're wrong, I'm right." are wrong. On the other hand, people who come across in the way that says, "This is what God has done for me and what he can do for you." are the people that deserve an open ear. We cannot 'make' you believe the truth. We can only be a witness to the work that God has done in our own lives and hope that the truth will set you free.

The way I state things is never in a condemning way. God has not condemned anyone, and therefore, so-called Christians have no right to do so either. Jesus already payed the price for our sin...

I'll give you a better illustration of God's love. We were all hellbound... our sin would have caused us to end up in hell If God had not done something about it. So heres an illustration:

You're in jail - for the rest of your life, you have been condemned by the jury and are in a cell. Completely cut off from all society. One day, some guy (Jesus) randomly walks up and asks the jailer (satan) how much it would cost to have YOU set free. The jailer replies, "It will cost you everything - the worst pain you could ever experience, and then death." The random guy doesn't even think twice. He immediately replies, "Yes. It's a deal."

Then, there are this guy's messengers - He sends one to your cell to let you know the good news - that you are free to go. You have no reason to refuse your freedom, do you? Yet, many people... living in the dark, just go to the corner and say "get away from me."

I'm telling you... "You're free to go! He's paid the price! You don't have to be locked up anymore! Go and be free! Have peace!"

Will you remain locked up? Think about it.

If you need questions answered, my personal email address is Luke_Overbeek@hotmail.com

Many christians will go to that jail cell and say to you "You can go, but you don't really deserve it. Some of the things you did to end up in this cell were very wrong. Do you think that you're worth his forgiveness?"

Condemnation was not to be placed upon anyone. I come to you with not condemnation, but peace and love.

Don't go back to the corner. You've been set free, so please accept your freedom.

  • There are tears of the saints
Christians go through all this persecution. All the facts about creationism being suppresed, all the "facts" about evolution being pushed up and having light shown on it as if it were really true. We deal with people killing us in some countries. We deal with all the pain. But what is very disturbing is that we have seen the evidence for an intellegent creator. We have seen the evidence for creationism, and the evidence supporting the biblical account of everything. But we aren't able to tell it that easily. What is even wrose is we have a hard time figuring out WHEN to tell someone. It's like a no win situation sometimes. You don't want to spread the gospel at the wrong time and have thease people burn in hell because oyu didn't do a good enough job. And if you miss an oppertunity because you didn't know if it was the right time, and have them die. It is really annoying. So it is our obligation to reach people with love. We try to show you guys the truth without you being offended. Yet you still are, and it's annoying.

  • Why?

Why does a christian have to spread the word of god? Is there people out there whom do not know? And wouldn't it be eaiser just to "google" it? This is 2006. And if I am not mistaking, there is some sort of church popping up on every street corner? Ok, so that's a little extreme, but I don't know of anyone who doesn't know where one is. I also believe that religion is forced on people. I think that it is done unknowingly. Like a used car salesman. And isn't there homosexual church's? Wow, kind of a funny world we live in huh, anyway, I will see ya'll in the front row on Sunday.

  • Thier not

True christian realize all the saving that would be done ,was done at the resurection of christ,He saved his people ,from the first to the last, amnd none other can obtain salvation, Mainstream so called christianity, who likes the Idea the he can save himself, or anyone else for that matter, is false prophets and psuedo christianity, acceptance, belief, circumcision, sinners prayers, sacrifices,confessions,...all fall short of achieving salvation, the blood of the christ was required, not to make a way possible, but to purchas that which was lost. If you will notice in mathew 1:21 it tells his pupose clearly, he "shall save" "his people " from thier sins. notice it doesnt say , make a way for them to save themselves, nor does it say all people.

  • Theory of Innocence

Personally, my observation about the Christian philiosophy on "saving" has dated back since the first days of the religion starting with the Apostle Paul, the founder of the religion. Most faiths (Christianity not being an exception) encourage the idea of spreading, but not forcing their beliefs to other people. Of course, no religion has remained unchanged since the day it was founded and this is no exception. Actually, it isn't really the religion, but the followers who have changed. Although this is true for all religions, including us atheists, Christianity's quote new followers unquote tend to center on a more arrogant and close-minded view on merely the traditions of the religion instead of focusing on why they started beleiving in the first place; in short, it has lost it's modesty. Of course, this isn't a "truth", per se. This is strictly my personal observation. Really, it's not about religion at all: it's about people. There are genuine people (christian, atheist, muslim, etc.) who really believe themselves to the extent that they don't feel the need for non-sensical forcement. When you get right down to it, the only solution for peace is honesty & the only solution for honesty is self-acceptance. Prima facie, the more you can love yourself, the more you can love others...of course, this is just me thinking out loud, but then again, that's the purpose of this website. Glad to be a new member. :]

  • It makes them feel good

So, why are Christians always trying to "save" somebody?

I think it's some false security they get from getting someone down the same path they are. They like it when they convert "barbarians" to their religion. That and they get more money to make more monstrous, gaudy churches.

Or maybe they'd rather surround themselves with others with their faith. Maybe, it makes them more secure to have someone to agree with all the time.

It's all so vapid and annoying.

  • Christians in Colonial Times

I also have read all about the ways that the people viewed the others in the colonies. The Indians were especially treated horribly, by some people who claimed Christianity and ran around screaming their fool head off about barbarians. The people that do this really need to re-evaluate their own beliefs. I am a Christian, but I do not slam other people's religon's down. Before I was a Christian, I was a very strong pagen, ready and willing to convince others of the truths that I thought were right. Now, as a Christian, I saw the error in my ways. The most you impose upon someone, the less wiilling they are to give any thought to the matter. The people who tried to convince the Indians to be Christians, were not really Christian like at all, because if they were they would have remembered that the Lord had said that you should let your life be an example and a light unto others, not your words.

  • afterlife and this life

I always thought that the reason Christians are so eager to spread the word of their savior is because they have different ideas on what happens when you die than say Hindus or Buddhists. If you're not Buddhist and don't want to listen to them then people who are don't need to worry about your soul (right now). They'll simply "catch you next time". Reincarnation is a wonderful idea for mainly that reason. There are more chances later and your spiritual journey is just that, a journey. For Christians, it's just a dive straight into the pool; you either are saved or you're not. If you die damned you stay damned.

Also, I've noticed that my Christian friends are used to being in the majority (I'm in conservative Colorado, USA). They may try to say that they are not in the majority, but they are. It may be construed as prejudice, but to my non-christian eyes all of y'all look alike. Sure, some eat bread and others speak in tongues and the days when you go to church change, but I put you all together. I notice Christians stand together no matter what when they're "threatened" by liberals, feminists, or whoever this week. Being in the majority means that they can be ignorant about other people's faith. If you're pagan here, you know all about Mary, Joseph, and Jesus, but do Christians know about Lugh or that you don't actually stab people with your athame? So I figured the second reason they try to "save" people is just good oldfashioned ignorance.

  • Because They Cannot Save Themselves

Christians try to save others because it strengthens their own belief. That is, deep down, their brains are telling them that Jesus is a load of crap but the surface of their brain is telling them to keep the faith. They save others so that their Jesus story HAS VALIDITY. Their belief is only true if people continue to believe it. Science, on the other hand, does not need validity because gravity is gravity whether you believe in it or not. Christians know that their God is dead if they do not force their children to believe. Unfortunately, young innocent minds are destroyed by Christian parents. I grew up Christian and know plenty of them today. I have killed God, Jesus, Mary and the Holy Spirit. I am more powerful today because of it. But, I realize what I have achieved is what only one in one million can do. Once poisoned with the notion of Jesus at an early age it is virtually impossible to leave that frame of mind. If you are Christian and reading this, I feel for you. I've been where you are. You will never be, however, where I am today. And that place is much, much higher than you. You will never be able to understand that. And that is what I have in common with Jesus: the realization that I am God. You suffer because you do not realize the same about yourself.

  • Semi- Agree'd

I Semi-Agree with this, and I'd like to clarify, at least part of it for you, by telling you what I believe.

I am a Christian. I belive in the God of Abrham. I do not belive in however, "converting" or "saving" people. I like to show people the right way, wehter it be christinity or not. I honestly think the concept of saving people is, and exuse my language but a little "horse-pucky." Sorry to those who disagree, but Maybe God- or whatever you call him\it; the higher power- likes people believing differnt things, and maybe he has hopes that differnt people wil lget toghether and make sense of eachothers beliefs. And I'm telling you now, even though they can be hard to find- even for me sometimes lol, there are others who feel the same.

So the way I see it, I don't think I'm holier-than-thou, and I don't like fundamentalists, and I respect and even agree with some things of other religouns, I just happen to be christian.

*Liz* ps I'm also not mad at you for saying that, like I said I even don't see the point in "saving" others at times.

  • Because this is what we believe in.
We go out to save people because of something called The Great Commission. WE are simple messengers nothing more, nothing less, if you choose to follow Him that is up to YOU. For those Christians that try to shove our beliefs down your throat, they are WRONG for do so. If you don't want to listen tell us so, and we will leave you alone, but chastising those who are just talking to you calmly following their personal beliefs make you just as WRONG as those who shove them down your throat. WE DO NOT witness because A. Jesus is a load a c***, because He is not!! B. Because in some strange, and absurdly odd way we feel inadequate. C. We don't need validity, it is a little thing called FAITH in our Lord and our convictions. Science is not a completely perfected practice anyway, there are many thing that it has not completely explained anyway. That's the cool thing about FAITH anyway IT DOES NOT NEED TO BE PROVEN. D. IT IS NOT, I REPEAT NOT BECAUSE WE ARE TRYING TO DOMINATE THE BLOODY WORLD!!
    E. We technically aren't trying to SAVE ANYONE, we only begin to process by giving a message, only JESUS AND JESUS ALONE can save anyone.
