religion is a very good way to control people

is religion geniune?

  • religion seems a bit fishy to me...

just out of curiosity, does anyone besides me realize that religion is a very good way to control people? think about it; we shall not kill, we shall not steal, and if we arent good then we go to hell. it seems to me that anyone who desired power ages ago could’ve told these things to early man, and we would believe it because we didnt know any better. this idea shouldnt seem very alien you because parents act in this way to control their kids. take for example the story that gum sticks to your insides for seven years before it comes out if you swallow it. this is untrue of course, but it is a good example for what i believe religion might be doing…it tells us to do something others believe is wrong or something terrible will happen to us. are we the child, living in ignorant terror of something that is impossible? did someone try this trick in early history, only for it to get out of hand? if we are the child, will we outgrow these fears? will we someday reach maturity and realize that these are irrational fears? or am i wrong? is religion genuine? am i a fool to question some of our most ancient customs? dont get me wrong; in no way shape or form am i saying that i dissagree with or dont want the moral guidelines religion gives us. i am just bringing up an idea that i believe needs to be concidered. so please, give me your feedback.

  • Leaders Use Religion To Deceive

Were you aware that Hitler’s Germany was mostly Christian? Hitler managed to convince the Germans to accept ethnic cleansing and euthenasia.

    We supplied both sides.

Jesus would never have done that.

George W. Bush used fear of Islam to persuade Christians to support aggression against a small unprepaired country.

Jesus would never have done that.

In the case of Christians, I wonder if there are any. War is not a Christian position, biblically. In practice, it seems just fine. Why is that?

  • YES religion is, but

belief in Christ is not a way to control. I am controlled by desire. Personal desire given by God and shown to those who ask and not shown to those who wish it so.

Religion can only do so much. In the end, we must decide ourselves the best way to live to achieve all that we may achieve and be all that we may be.

  • Hmmm..!

religion IS abused by leaders ect. BUT in its purest form, ie without dogma religion gives people hope, a way of explaining life, and a feeling that they are part of something greater than themselves - ITS NO CONSPIRACTY -

  • Hope
Hate to argue on facts against different people's beliefs. so this is just my opinion, hopefully one that isn't argued. I believe religion is a way of creating hope. It's what makes us stupid and react in weird ways. But it's one of the few things if you believe in it that gives you hope in dark times. No matter what any of us say, or if you tried to change the past, we'd still have religion. There's always going to be someone who is going to say there is someone greater than us out there. Just like this debate in our opinions, philosophies, we must respect each an everyone's beliefs. Religion or philosophy

  • Atheists are the real control freaks
Atheists are real control freaks. They control most colleges, and have pushed themselves deep into politics and public schools, to the point that if you are a teacher, you can be fired for expressing a belief in God. If you are a student, you must mask any faith you might have, especially if you are Christian, or risk the wrath of the Atheist-controlled board of education, and possible expulsion form school. The Atheist-controlled Democratic Party has wasted no time in condemning Christians as terrorists, even though Muslims have far outdone all other religious groups in acts of murder and terrorism, and Atheists themselves hold the record for mass murder-over 100 million people between Stalin and Mao alone, and That's not counting Pol Pot and Ho Chi Minh! When it comes to bigotry, intolerance, and use of force, nobody tops the atheists, and yet, they love to play the victim. They wallow in their persecution complex and moan endlessly about how everyone is out to get them. Pathetic.

  • DON'T JUDGE THEM ALL ON ONE!

A lot of religions do seem that way - I'm not going to use any names, but you all probably know which religions I mean. I myself, however, am a pagan - a witch. And we are not forced to believe or follow anything. We can believe whatever we want to, and that's why the beliefs of witches individually often differ. Witches aren't trying to turn other people into witches and you don't have to do what other pagans say; especially not when you're a solitair witch. I think my religion has nothing to do with control. So watch out with the terms you use, because not all religions are alike

  • I agree with you...
I like religion, I really do, and I think it was well founded on honest roots. The only problem is, some assholes want to dip their fingers in it and make some money... and fulfill their need for control.

  • Just a quote

There was a line from the movie, “The Big Bounce” in which Morgan Freeman says, ” God is an imaginary friend for grown up’s.” When I heard that I thought to myself that it was so true. Religion is a form of control in my opinion and in my experience throughout my life. I wrote a poem and posted it on Allpoetry called “All In My Name”. That poem has to do with this subject of religion and the effect is had on me as a child and now as an adult.

  • Religion can be used

I think that religion can be used for control. So in a sense “religion” is not genuine. But i haven’t yet made up my mind if their is a higher being. I think that their may be, buut that youi don’t need a church telling you what to do and how to think. That a person can come to their own conclusions. If their is a god, i really don’t think he would spend time making a world and species just so that they can go to church and kneel, then stand, then kneel and whatever else.

  • Genuine?

Genuine in what sense? The first idea of God was for survival. People wanted to keep people in control, by not just laws, but by the divine. I believe that those ideas were the basis of any talking of God. I’m not saying he’s not real, but without that need—why would there be?

  • you guys are fucking idiots
religion of COURSE it is a tool for control.

Interestingly, how come people all over the world have formed their own religion?

SAY FOR EXAMPLE you are the EMPEROR of CHINA. now how the FUCK are you going to control all those people? tell them all to listen to you simply because you are the KING? heck no, no one will listen to you by force, there will be rebellion and all sorts of shit happens to you. So the CLEVER TRICK is introduce the "almighty". you can't do this, you cant do that. (What people should or shouldn't do is a HUMAN thing. it is not enforced by animals or other species.) who said it? not me...but some invisible spirit that lives in our imagination tells us that... oh, now that's an excellent way to shut everyone up and let their emotions control the people. now you as an emperor can continue to enjoy your spoils and your luxuries while all the lower stupider people play with themselves with their emotions and their stupidity of inability to escape the fact that they have been tricked.

it is a proven method and it WORKS that's why it is still in effect today. BUT luckily in this modern world we have technology, science, and the OVERALL INTELLIGENCE of people = rising = MORE COMMON SENSE. i guarantee sooner or later, when more and more people realize that religion was a prehistoric mechanism for mass control, then we will be like... oh how can those 'primitive' people be so STUPID! they believe that some made up being will 'save' them? rofl... they FEAR death?! rofl... you are given 100 years of life... so MAKE GOOD USE OF IT, don't waste it going to church, or reading some fake story book called the bible. you don't NEED RELIGION to be a GOOD HUMAN or to have a HAPPY LIFE. you don't need it ANYMORE. people in the past might have need it because of the lack of understanding of the world, but we got SCIENCE and TECHNOLOGY today. so its time to UPGRADE our species and move away from this BULLSHIT!

also, go ahead and believe what you want

but REMEMBER, don't LET RELIGION HINDER YOUR PRODUCTIVITY.

if believing in god means you NO LONGER QUESTION that is a STUPID TRADE OFF. the human species got to where were are today simply we ask questions. we have a built in mechnanism to make us question everything even if it seems so compelling true.

if you believe in god... then question him. do research. use science to PROVE that he exist. if you can't then WHAT THE FUCK? you still believe this? are you fucking retarded?

DONT LET YOUR EMOTIONS CONTROL YOU

YOU HAVE TO CONTROL YOUR EMOTIONS

this is one of the BIGGEST flaws in humans, emotion is not bad, but if we let it loose and lose control like many people and religion... oh we believe you god.. because you 'touch my heart' or because you can make me cry... or because you relate to me... WTF that is STUPID. BE REASONABLE. USE YOUR FUCKING BRAIN. too many people don't use their brain and fall into this religion bullshit.

for all you religion believers... especially Christianity, the biggest mass control that exist in today's world... USE YOUR BRAIN OR LIVE IN STUPIDITY.

  • Indoctrination...
To some extent, religions are merely the basis of indoctrination. Religions not only control people, but it also controls their way of thinking. Religions, as a matter of fact, also have effects on children. I mean, how can you tell a child for example "God is the man in the sky that will strike you with lightening if you do something bad."? That's very dumb for someone to say.

And George W. Bush used the fear of Islam to makes Christian aggressive toward Muslims, etc. I mean, not every Muslim you see is bad, evil or corrupt and want to destroy your country. That's quite a foolish perception.

And how can you even have a religion if there's one like Christianity. Christians in themselves can't even agree with each other. The Catholics teach on thing, Seventh Day Adventists teach another and then goes the Baptists and so forth. And Christians think that they're religion is oh-so-great when it isn't. It doesn't make sense at all.

Everyone should just use their brain and stop falling prey to indoctrination and control of others.

  • Truth it Is just as God Is.

One either chooses to be a Catholic or not. No one pressures you with fears should you leave the church.

Faith, which is not a given is what binds me to my belief in God. Truth needs no qualification or justification. Truth it Is just as God Is.

  • Not really..

But i can understand why you might think that. I do agree that some things could be taken out of context. Due to man’s mishandling of religion. I guess i am agreeing with you. But even you have to admit that there are genuine messages there. We certainly are not denied our right to make our own choices.

  • Religion is a good tool

until it gets in the wrong hands...

Personally I don't believe in "organized religion". There are many people who will use man's desire to congregate and "fit in" against them, which I believe is where this topic is going. A person's faith, especially when very strong, can turn on them, as I've seen many people in my life become so blinded by their belief system that they refuse to think anyone of their same religious system could do wrong. The people who know this can see an easy means of control, yes. How many old, poor, starving people send money to televangelists with the hopes of being blessed? These people travel the country preaching and "healing" others. They live in multi-million dollar mansions. Many have been proven to stage their "healings". They don't cash checks below a certain dollar amount...does this mean that your money isn't good enough for their ministry? will you not be saved if they don't cash the check?

God's message was to accept anyone, even if you don't believe in their ways. Unfortunately, many don't see this, and they flock to like minded peoples, and close themselves off to the rest of humanity. They discard any thoughts or beliefs that don't conform to their own...and in believing that other's who don't think like them are "bad" or "wrong", some can be easily led to see that those people should be "purged" (Hitler).

I believe that "religion" should be a personal thing, and while it's all right to be around others with simillar ideas, I find it a little dangerous to only accept the thoughts of those people as "truth". It's very limiting, and very stifling to the spirit to be so immobile. There's no room for growth.
