God's will?

Why do some people say that when something bad has happened it is for a reason? (Or even anything that happens) Why do people say that God put them through it when it occured because of human choice?

  • You statement is a little biased.

What occurs due to human choice may be occuring because God wills it. That’s not to say this is the case, but what you accept as the totality of reality may merely be the mechanics of existence.

I believe that what happens to us is a result of our enviroment, our past experience and ours and other people’s choices.

  • What is God's Will
God's will is when you give up your empowerment because of fear. This is a direct opposit of love.

I'll give you an example. A few months ago I had a severe case of bed bugs. If you don't know, they are small bugs that suck on your blood when you are sleeping. I was waking up with red welts covering my entire body. There were blood streaks on my bedsheets. I'd be on the commute to work and one little bug would climb out of my shirt and crawl up my neck.

It was a severe psychological blow. I remember talking to my brother one night on my cell phone and crying because those little blood suckers were literally killing me. At that time of my life I was a believer in an outside force, God's will if you want.

I took action. I threw out my queen size bed that I had many fond memories of 'victories', bookcases, clothes, sheets, etc. I threw out almost everything including half of my books (I had about a thousand*). I caulked up all the cracks and spaces. I cleaned up everything. I sprayed the place with bug spray and went to sleep covered from head to toe.

Anyway, I finally got rid of them after about two months. Since then I've occasionally seen one but I don't panic because I sought out KNOWLEDGE. They appeared because the conditions were right, not some outward force like a God sending them to me. Yes, I do sleep on a steel-framed cot now and been celibate in my apartment ever since but that was a good consequence.

I dont' judge bed bugs. They do what they were designed to do if the conditions are right. I took away the conditions and killed what was there. No 'evil', no 'bad' me or no 'God's will'.

I am empowered. I do what it takes to do MY WILL. If I leave it up to a "God" then I give my power AWAY TO CHANCE.

A bed bug just appeared today. I grabbed and crushed it. No problem. No psychological effect anymore because I know they cannot harm me except to get a feeding.

My will is greater than God's will. If God wants to kill me, then BRING IT ON. I'll die with my will intact, thank you.

*BTW, after I became enlightened, I threw out ALL my books including my treasured 400 Spiritual book collection. I have no books at home. I've completely thrown them out. I only rely on myself. If I'm wrong, that's fine.

  • The Mind
All of us make our own decisions, regardless of god and such. I'm not religious, but I remember from my christian days the bible teaching of how god wanted us to make our own decisions. If fate is determined, why would we have our own thoughs, hopes, and dreams?

  • Any Reason

Not just god but fate and karma, all of the above. I like to use the two latter often, and while they come into play, it's because I've done something bad before then.

No one can truly know. Just try to make the best of it, that's all.

  • It's easier.
It's easier to put the blame on God, than it is to put it on ourselves. Man doesn't like to see his own faults, or take responsibility for them. Therefore blame God, it can't be us.
