Is there realy a point on having all these philosophical discussions when nobody seems to agree? What is the use on screaming out loud all the injustice that is exsistent in the world when we,the voice, don't do a damn thing about it?

There’s the vague idea of spreading awareness. Then there’s the idea of seeing that we’re not alone in our sentiments. And then there’s the fact it just makes us feel like maybe we’re accomplishing something and making a difference.
And who says we’re not doign a damn thing about it?

people talk on end about what is wrong in this world and there is always somebody listening or watching and when a kid hears he remembers and then when that kid grows up he remembers that was horrible so does something to stop it. whatever is wrong may not get fixed today but it is a start. Ever read To Kill a Mockingbird.

Talking is doing13% Voted for by slender spider, Sachiel Hijikata, Happy 420, aria94.
Talking is the second step to reaching action. Effortlessly it will become action without us even realizing it when the energy through talking is maximized.

I write a letter every week to the President to try and finally convince him of the things he’s doing wrong (a la “Shawshank Redemption). However, I only started a month ago (when I first saw “Shawshank” and I will probably be stopping, considering that he’s only in office for four more years.

To be prepared...10% Voted for by wbiro, Sachiel Hijikata, birdlover06.
To be ready to do something when your chance comes. For most of us little guys, we have 'micro-chances' every day to influence the course of an issue. Others, like public figures and powerful leaders, have 'mega-chances'. I would include writing and reading with 'talking' here, for I am no fan of talking- it's too muddled by emotions, visual distractions, and animalisms like aggression. Further, it is too slow- reading is much faster and therefore more efficient, and writing allows one to better formulate what one wants to say. Hey, I see a new philosophical topic here, talking...

I speak to others about things to see if anyone can show me I’m wrong if I am so I don’t end up thinking and doing the wrong things all my life! Why else would we discuss things like this? Its dosen’t seem to me like you thought this through. Ask yourself the question and try to answer it before asking others unless you have no idea at all. Just because people are discussing something it dosen’t mean they are not going to do anything about it. Why are you talking about “philosophical discussions” and then talking about “doing” something? We can’t “do” anything about the existance or non exsitance of the universe, we can only think and talk about it!

to voice our opinions to have an intelligent conversation, to get our feelings out to share our knowledge and to learn more from others. talking about it and educating others is the first step in making a difference and who says it doesn’t make a difference, maybe it does down the road when a subject comes up and one of the members was here and they change what should be changed, they listened to our opinions an based their decision off that. it may not have split second results, but down the line this does a whole lot of good.

we aren't doing anything BECAUSE we don't agree!Voted for by happysassycassie.
The point of this is to see what other diverse viewpoints exist on an issue that we are unsure about. It is because we are unsure that we don't act.

We aren’t even having philosophical discussions. Almost none of the topics on this site are actually philosophy. More are ethics or social topics, things like that. But why not sit and talk about it? Perhaps some of us wish to see others’ points of view. I know that I always enjoy seeing what others have to say about a subject that I feel strongly about. Sometimes their point of view will completely change mine once I hear it and understand it. And sometimes there is just nothing we can do about certain subjects. There are many topics about God on here, whether He exists. Is it better to go out and try to prove it one way or the other or is it better to present evidence and hope to change someone’s mind? Well, I’d say it’s much better to present evidence because there is no proof and there never will be, because if there was proof that God exists then there would be no point to religion. Sometimes it is better to sit and talk than to do something else and try to change something. And hey, maybe changing peoples’ minds is helping do that. The debate about gay marriages will not be won in any way other than people changing their minds, and for their minds to change they need a reason. Thus, we have debates.

'Easier said than done?' Well, some people need to get their emotions and anger out, so they feel better afterwards. Some things are not only easy to say, then avoid action, but some things are actually BETTER left undone. There are some opinions that people have that would probably ruin someone's life, or damage something if action was induced. So... it's better to blow off extra steam by writing, than to actually take action sometimes. :-h

Well, ppl want to ask these questions because they want a definite answer and discussing (not arguing) helps them figure out what it all means... what is love, truth, lust, etc. People just talk about things because they feel that whatver the injustice is, it warrants conversation, but they feel that their moral obligation is to only tell other people about the problem hoping that they in turn with act on it. I wonder why all these other people just got all defensive and just HAD to tell you that they are doing things, not just spreading the word.

Well if we talked about nothing it would last forever because nothing lasts forever so talking about something, anything, may just change it or put into motion something that will!

make the change yourself
i love it when people ask "why isn't anybody doing anything to change whats wrong?" I love it because it gets me thinking, who is anybody to decide what is right for everybody anyway ? i want to know who decided that there is anything wrong in the first place and why is that person flapping their lips and not taking action of their own.i have found , in my time in this world , that people are for the most part, a bunch of talkers and not walkers....it seems to me, that people find it so much easier to sit around talking about whats wrong with everything, than to get up and make the changes they need to live in a happier place. now what ever makes them happy will not always make you and i happy, but this is when you and i need to do the same. get up , make changes, and not be so worried with whats wrong in our worlds. rather find for ourselves what is right in our worlds. there, i'm done now. whew!
