churchill

churchill considered it in the highest degree odious to cast a man into prison without the judgement of his peers and without legal precedence. 1943 Britain stood to face fascists, communists, nazis, and the IRA, and yet churchill did not go so far as those administrations near and dear to us. Has anything changed since then, and if so when did it change?

  • Churchill

In 1943.... this was at the height of World War II, when England's very survival was at stake. Churchill got away with unilateral executive actions. He had actively set in motion the invasion of Norway, and failed only because Hitler beat him to it! I remember discussing this in college. German spies in Britain - German or British - were hanged after summary trials (usually after their value as information had been thoroughly wrung out; British counterintelligence routinely monitored people suspected of spying. Domestic spying? Every piece of mail coming in and out of Britain was opened and read.

Churchill favored skipping the Nuremberg trials, holding a tribunal with a specification of charges, and executing the Nazi leadership summarily and without ceremony. And to be frank with you he may have been right.I personally think it was totally wrong but history has not TOTALLY proven right or wrong on this matter completely. All the history experts seemgly agree on this one fact even though most have personal opinions opposing this action.

Churchill was one of history's great statesmen and leaders, but he couldn't plan his way out of a paper bag militarily.

Churchill took extreme measures to fight tyranny, and left a free state and a free Europe.

If anything has changed maybe it's these great big bombs they like to show off these days, it gives them a false sense of security.
