Who among you practice Zen, and if so, how is it going?

In the following weeks, I will be both struggling with my alcoholism and reading the book by Robert Thurman, Tibetan Buddhism. I'll be comparing what I read with what I know, remember, and learn from Zen.

  • What is Zen? What is the Tao?

What of Zen or the Tao can be found in Tibetan Buddhism? How can study and practice of the Tao or Zen assist in healing or managing addictions, alcoholism, obsessons, compulsions? Who among you has had experience for better or for worse with this?

  • Zen

is another addiction. You would be replacing one with another. But you might live longer. I am addicted to the chemicals nitrogen and oxygen. These addictive chemicals allow me to experience this phenomenal universe.

  • we are all addicted to something

I have two big ones. My God and my family. A close third would be music of any kind. Okay, okay... and all of you at Allphilosophy, of course.

  • Wishing you well

Firstly I'd like to wish you well on your journey.

Even if Zen is addictive (I am not sure about this.) at least it's healthier for your mind and body than alcohol. Meditation has always been helpful for me to relieve stress and even through childbirth. I'm sure with dedication it will be ideal to help you through the difficult times as long as you remember it will be difficult but ultimately worth it.

  • At least

through the addiction of zen, rather than fast food or alcahol, there is a possibility of a longer life to contemplate and resolve the reasons for one's addiction to this particular drug (chemical zen) or the more common drug (chemical air). Just a longer lifetime. As long as you dont zen before an oncoming bus. If so, there is always the possibility of another lifetime to GET "IT".

  • Addiction and all things about life

Addiction is a trio, just like life and the Trinity of God. Spiritual addiction, Physical addiction and psychological.

If you feed your physical body good food and you feed your mind great knowledge, then what do you feed your spirit? If your spirit starves, then you will most certainly spend your time searching for a physical and mental replacement.
