faith vs. fact

why is it that people feel the need to treat the bible as fact...

fact and faith are two VERY different things...

fact is something you KNOW to be true...

but having faith in something means to believe strongly...

the bible itself says to "have faith"...

so why do so many people treat the book as a fact?

  • Your Opinion

why is it that some people find the need to treat the Bible as though it is not fact....

***but having faith in something means to believe strongly***

there again you are implying Christians put their faith in a book that is not fact. This is merely your opinion only. You cannot prove or disprove. You have faith (strong beliefs as you say) it is not fact, but there again, that does not mean you are correct no more than it means Christians are not correct.

My question to you is why do you seemingly not associate the Bible with fact??

  • The Bible is FACT

I think that the bible is complete FACT. There's no doubt in my mind about this. I grew up Christian and I would know. It's not just a bunch of lies or stories to put kids to sleep. This stuff actually happened. All those people exist. Jesus did miracles. He walked on water. He changed water to wine. He did everything. Nothing and I mean NOTHING in the Holy Word of God is false. It is not a fabrication. I believe the bible is fact. If anyone has a problem with this, you can take it up with me. But all I'm gonna tell ya is the Bible is fact.

  • Views and ranting
It's fables to take morals from as a means of controlling the populous. If God created man - who created God? And when is the second coming supposed to show up? ha ha ha Cause we all know who's working for the antichrist, BUSH AND BLAIR. But they have relinquished their powers to the puppets that are going to take their places.
In the federal banking system slaves to their trade dream of a slice of their elitest pie.
Fascist dictators act like our creators but will see to the demise a vast section of the populous of the planet. Occulist symbols in everday life show that the hidden ones are in control.

    ----

Lies are the basis of too much, this has been proven of the bible. Think about it, in the bible Jesus denounces scribes - who wrote the bible? Their are hidden meanings scattered throughout it. Fact is that morals are a good thing to be aware of, fiction is thinking that just going to church constitues as doing a good thing. Good has little to do with God, help offered should not be tainted by anything.
Little of what we know is true, the dilution of facts on matters is blatant and frequent. Our lives need not be shepharded by anyone but instead we should tend to the needs of our planet and people. Our future is worthless if it does not affect the distant future in a positive way, by narrowing options to only religion we close our eyes to so much that could benefit us and others.

  • insecurity

i honestly believe that the more literally you interperate the bible to be, the more insecure you are about your faith...

i mean, if you really have an undying faith in god, then why do you even need the bible?

the greatest form of faith in something would be to believe it without tangible proof, which is exactly what most people treat the bible as...

let me break it down into smaller step for those of you who still are struggling to grasp what i'm saying...

    proof undermines faith...

    bible is considered proof...

that means that the bible undermines faith...

    just a thought...

  • I'll say it again

I recieved no reply to this argument of mine earlier, and yet people still persist in parading concieved fact as 'truth'. Anyway, I shall post it again

"It seemingly pervades that many people claim to have knowledge. The chrsitian claims he knows God is real. The strong athiest claims he knows God is not real. Even some adherents to other religions, beliefs and philosophies may claim knowledge. So, either only one of these people is actually right, or logic is actually a fallible truth bearing system.

While one is experiencing revelation or the Holy Spirit they are convinced of its truth bearing. However, while one is at loss (having not recieved a certain revelation or unable to obtain one at a certain time), this person, while not seemingly convinced, requires a level of faith to keep them ‘believing’. While one does not seemingly need faith while experiencing revelation directly, it does however appear that faith is a needed component to obtaining revelation in the first place.

Many people seem convinced that our senses, being infallible, provide us with axiomatical, infallible knowledge. However, without some sort of metaphyscal notion or transcendence of knowledge one has no basis for such claims. Many claim that they are convinced that such senses are truth bearing, and reliable for knowledge induction. However, one being convinced of something, seemingly, does not make it inherently true. Chemical induction of the mind to be convinced of a certain notion and any other as irrational is not a basis for knowledge, nor would many people consider it a reliable means when stated like this, yet they still do, conscious of it or not.

If natural law is the only factor involved in our creation, then no sort of metaphysical notion, transcendent diety or super power is present to acknowledge ones convictions as truth bearing. When the athiest is sure of being right, this is only due to chemical induction upon the brain, and is not in relation to actualisation of a universal, transcendent truth and rationality. When one is convinced of a knowledge basis as being rationalised and truthful, it is only because their brain tells them so. And the brain, having being evolved as a result of its notions being inducive of the ability to survive, has no trouble in involving active deception and flawed perception. If one survives better up to reproduction time because they are convinced of a particular notion, wrong or right, will survive better than the unconvinced. No God or supreme being, according to the athiests claims, would be present to be ethically persuaded to ensure active deception is not involved.

So, seemingly, a level of faith is needed to accept the convictions of any proposed notion. One must trust that their experiences are ‘trustowrthy’ and reliable. But why trust something that has no desire to appropriate? One must trust the Creator before the creation, whatever your notion of creator may be (natural selection, God, Satan, unconscious mind, unknown factor X), whatever. And revelation, being the only method of experiencing such a creator, and only ever seemingly experienced in relation to ones understanding of Christ and the Holy Spirit, seems to me, a ‘rational’ choice of placing ones trust."

  • Well

By that definition, there is no "Fact" Our own existance cannot be definitively proven, and if we do not in fact exist, nothing we know to be true is true eather.

  • how did God fit your box
its funny how so many people can make the claim that there is only one true religion and it happens to be mine.then make the statment in the same breath the God of their religion is alknowing, omnipotent, and we could not comprehend his/her thoughts. now whats so funny is how did you get this onipotent being to fit in such a limited idea, how can one concept man made at that define the Creator of all. me personaly i think it very cocky to make that statment
