It has been a common thought of humans that upon seeing the golden disc filled with all of the information of our 1980s culture that they will immediately want to come and talk to us. What if instead they want to eat us? What if they want us to be slaves? What do we assume about intelligence that it requires that they be peaceful?

Everytime I hear something about Alien contact, people are saying that Aliens will be evil and murderous. I would say that they would be friendly because we aren’t worth being eaten by them. They’d take their appetite’s elsewhere.

Aliens- Real? Good?Voted for by KaseyL.
Humans have been making up “factual” information about space, time etc. They have never been close to any planet…besides Mars, which men haven’t even GONE to Mars. The things that we put in space, are so far away from blackholes, other stars, etc. That we can’t see if anything that we are saying is factual. I believe, that there are lifeforms in the universe, in a completely different galaxy….that are a lot like us. THEY have this belief that there are “aliens” and they have a government, with politicians and such. Yes, they have different words and phrases then we do, so if we ever got together, it would be even worse than two people speaking seperate languages.
Aliens are actually lifeforms, with the same bodily functions, possibly in different places, as we are. There is someone, typing about Aliens on those planets right now. That’s my belief.

Chances very Remote of ContactVoted for by radioboy.
I have thought about this and have come to the conclusion life in the Universe that is both intelligent and able to manipulate materials ( made radio transmitters etc) is very small in probability. If there is intelligent life its physical form may be very differnt from humans. What it requires for energy to survive would likely be very differeent than the atmosphere and energy sources available on earth. A super civilization that has existed for hundreds of thosands of years would have evolved so far beyond our level they would more than not IGNORE human intelligence they way we would ignore an ant hill.

i dont think they will even bother.Voted for by enoch.
aliens will have more knowledge. they have been where we are going.more advanced.space ships and things. we have not even fully conquered the world we live on. we have not seen all there is to see. we have conflict of every kind amongst ourselves. no, that is too much catching up we would have to do. they will probably would just watch.

They're gonna kill us..Voted for by XxAmeliaxX.
They arent going to be. They are going to come down here and kill us all because we are the second smartest living things in the universe. And they want to be number one. Doesnt everyone?

Common Thought?Voted for by justonewish.
What ever happened to ‘Indepencence Day’ and ‘Mars Attacks?’ And how ‘bout all those people who are scared to death of being abducted? There are many people who expect aliens to be hostile, too.

Why does everyone always think aliens will be smarter than us? I think with the way nature has worked out on this planet, "aliens" on other planets will be much like humans, if they're intelligent. Maybe they will be slightly different to fit in with their ecosystem but I don't believe they will be much more intelligent than us. Why would they? The most logical theory in my opinion says that the universe was pretty much created all at once, so they probably don't have a "head start" on us.
I personally think the only reason everyone assumes there has to be a "greater life form" out there is because they don't want to admit that this is as good as it gets for now.
Just my humble opinion...

If not we wouldn't be here nowVoted for by Cosmic Rose.
talking about whether aliens are freindly or not. If aliens were not at least tollerant... do you suppose they wouldn't have already gotten rid of us to ensure we not infest the rest of the cosmos?
There are Type 1, 2, & 3 Civilizations A Type I civilization would be able to manipulate truly planetary energies. They might, for example, control or modify their weather. They would have the power to manipulate planetary phenomena, such as hurricanes, which can release the energy of hundreds of hydrogen bombs. Perhaps volcanoes or even earthquakes may be altered by such a civilization.
A Type II civilization may resemble the Federation of Planets seen on the TV program Star Trek (which is capable of igniting stars and has colonized a tiny fraction of the near-by stars in the galaxy). A Type II civilization might be able to manipulate the power of solar flares.
A Type III civilization may resemble the Borg, or perhaps the Empire found in the Star Wars saga. They have colonized the galaxy itself, extracting energy from hundreds of billions of stars.
By contrast, we are a Type 0 civilization, which extracts its energy from dead plants (oil and coal). Growing at the average rate of about 3% per year, however, one may calculate that our own civilization may attain Type I status in about 100-200 years, Type II status in a few thousand years, and Type III status in about 100,000 to a million years. These time scales are insignificant when compared with the universe itself.
You do not evolve past being a type 1 civilization by being meat eaters. Smoked meat at that... lol you more than likely would absorb light (eat light...lol tastes great...less filling) If I were an alien... I would stay far away from humanity in the same way one would avoid a rattle snake even if it is good eating according to some. It is far more dangerous to mess with when there is so much more to eat on the menu.
I personally believe that there is an alien police force that makes certain that WE do not leave this planet ourselves until we are evolved enough to do so without causing harm to the rest of the Cosmos. This means that WE are perhaps the MOST dangerous of all beings to be found within the Cosmos at this time. Perhaps its the law of karma that causes people to believe that they are on the food chain?

The TimelineTo the best of our scientists knowledge, the Earth has been 6(?) Billion years in the making. Another parallel civiliation 5 lightyears away might be 1000 years behind us (our Dark Age) or 1000 years ahead of us (they will have nuked their planet into oblivion, Har!) Hard saying what state an Alien race might be in. Assuming they had a planet of similar composition as Earth they may have discovered their Elements in a different order than us. Their constellations would be different shapes so their mythology would take on different forms. A whole lot of interesting sideroads to consider when pondering alien race development.Voted for by EarthToJim.

Exactly
Humans never assume that anything we come in contact with will be peaceful. We always assume it will be the enemy. I don't know what the guy who started this topic was smoking. Conflict or fear is the first thing to come to mind when humans contact anything for the first time. Even if it's inanimate. Like a brick wall, or a big dumb rock for example. Please register or login to comment! It's totally free
