Is man equal to a woman?

    See I'll put it in business terms for you!
    If an apple is a dollar and an orange is a dollar.

    apple + orange = apple + orange. They aren't equal.

    But they are worth the same thing.

    Same with man and woman. We are different (and not equal in that regard) What we have, our assets are equally as valuable. A woman and a man are worth the same if you will.

    Happy? Man and woman not equal(in the strictest sense, physical differences), but equally valuable!

    So if we divert to what really matters in the world today, money...equal value means equally interchangeable. If I have a dollar and want and apple great, and if want an orange also great. Either way, it's a dollar.

    (God I sound cold, but I can only argue with cold heartless arguments in a cold heartless way)

  • The 'Bible' Factor
    When I first looked at this I was reminded of the passage in Genesis where God becomes angry at Eve for disobeying him and eating the forbidden fruit.
    Genesis 3:16
    To the woman he said,
    "I will greatly increase your pains in childbearing;
    with pain you will give birth to children.
    Your desire will be for your husband,
    and he will rule over you."

    This is basically where the whole man over woman debate began all those hundreds, thousands, years ago. The Pharisees, scholars and interpreters of the word all those years ago decided that man would rule over woman based on this passage.

    Many would blame God and say he is a sexist bastard, but the fault lies with us... human beings!! My personal justification for God's word that day is this: he was simply predicting or stating what is going to happen to woman's future as the years go by. "He WILL rule over you." Not he SHOULD rule over you.

    This is my opinion and by no means to I agree that man is any better than woman (quite the opposite - guys are quite generally stupid), but this is essentially where the whole debate was stemmed from (in my opinion).

  • why are people idiots?
    For god's sake, people can not be equal or unequal to each other! They are all different, all are just as important. Women are different from each other, so are men. There are women who you really have to wonder what makes them a woman, cause they look and act more like a man. The same thing is with some guys. How can you say that one is equal to another when the components of each group are so different. Its like saying are fruits better than vegetables!

    Men and women will be equal when men will have the ability to get pregnant. Until then, enjoy unequality.
    What I'm trying to say is...men should be more "cavaliers", more "gentlemen" to the creatures who nurture life.
    I don't know how to explain this, but I was raised in a culture which values mothers, a lot. Only women have the ability to become moms.

    Wo- is a prefix meaning; to come from or created from a part of something. Woman means: created from man.

    Men lack certain things and woman lack certain things. The two compliment each other perfectly, until the curses were chosen. Then things changed, but the beginning still holds true. One is no better than the other. They just hold different places in humanity(not to be confused with society or culture).

    As far as I'm concerned, absolutely. We can do anything you can. Yes, it may take a while to get strong enough to bench 150lbs, but the point is, we can do it.

  • WHAT DEFINES A WOMAN OR MAN IS THE TRUE BASIS ON WHICH EQUALITY CAN BE FOUND

    What defines x and what defines y is what makes up x and y. what makes up x is different from what makes up y which is the reason why they are different entities and unlike terms. Likewise what defines a woman is what makes up a woman and what defines a man is what makes up a man. And what makes up a woman is different from what makes up man. Thinking is not what defines a woman or man so it can not be basis for equality. What makes up a woman and what makes up a man is the only true basis on which equality can be found. Since what makes up a woman is different from what makes up a man it means the two are not equal.

  • we seem to be talking at cross purposes!
    Equality, differentiation and superiority are entirely different things.

    Woman and Man are EQUAL because they both have faults, an good points. However as women can now, apparantly manufacture sperm, that is one of man's good points wiped clean, but man offers many things a woman cannot. A partenrship and creation of life is not just about making a new life, but the emotional rollercoaster that goes with that, and having a partner there could be classed as part of that. (However I have nothing against single parents, I think you are very brave and strong ) But they are, apparantly equal, for I can see no reason to say that they are NOT equal.

    All creatures will differ from each other, even within a species, eg. dogs, there are many different breeds and, if shown, for example a small, fluffy dog with a short snout (like a Shih Tzu)and a large, short haired dog with a long snout, (Such as a greyhound or pointer) Someone could see them as different species. Differentiation occurs every where, and thus neither sex can be ridiculed for being different.

    Superiority is an entirely diferent issue. Now women are superior in the area of sex, as they can now create children without the help of men, and men cannot do that without women. However in Business and economics Men are almost always paid more than women. Making them superior.

    So what are we asking here?

    Why am I using mathematics? Mathematics is a tool for modeling real world phenomena. Why do we need to model a real world phenomenon? We need to model a real world phenomenon in order to be able to describe a real world phenomenon so as to show the facts. Advantages of mathematical models are precise, simple, International and reasoning. Equality is only obtainable if entities are the same. The entities we got here are woman and man. These are different entities and therefore are not equal. Mathematics is for solving real world problems. The advantage with mathematical argument is that it is not relative like ethical arguments it is universal or absolute. Mathematics is used to model a real world problem and prove it theoretically. Because what is true in the world of mathematics is also true in real world.

    Some people find it easier to understand it if we put like this; x + y = x + y

    Putting it in words; X plus y is equal to x plus y so, x plus y is the answer.

    Since unlike terms don’t add up it means x and y are not equal. Why? Because they are unlike terms or different entities.

    Using the same logic; woman + man = woman + man

    Since the answer is man + woman it means man plus woman don’t add up and therefore woman and man are not equal.

    If we put it like this; Woman + woman = 2woman

    But    2woman is 2women.

    Since the answer is 2woman it means woman plus woman add up and therefore woman and woman are equal.

    This shows it obeys math principles and proves the fact that what is true in the world of math is also true in the real world.

    So it should also obey the following; x + y = x + y which can also be put in this form woman + man = woman + man

    Further more the fact that woman and man are not equal does not mean man is superior.

  • Is there truly an inequality?
    As in most issues that are discussed we are trying to establsh a sence of value on something that has none. Looking past the power struggle and the glass ceiling we can see what we all were created for. Whether it by God or natural selection we were created to be a functioning unit. Each endowed with a unique set of attributes that offset the other. Now I need not remind you there are rare individual exceptions. Men are born more physical, as a counter, woman more mentally and emotionally intune. We can spend hours debating the differences and try to establish a value but it will all be in vein. The only thing that holds value is the end result of combining the two. By respecting the differences and forming a good unit you create something of infinite value. But instead we try to over compensate for our short comings and ruin the whole thing. As far as pregnancy goes its the same thing. As far as the physical end woman got the bad end of the deal. But there is emotional gratification in overcoming that physical burden. Men are essential to even start the process and play a huge role in the over all developemental process. Now these are all core issues but the gist is know your strengths and respect your weaknesses. When a man and a woman do as such there is no inequaity.

    women would have to register for selective service when they turn 18

    men would have exclusive clothing stores

    women would be expected to get beaten senseless on the turf while playing for the home team

    men could get their pictures in the yearbook as cheerleaders

    a woman in the automotive shop would not be seen as trendy or modern, and a man in the home economics class would not be seen as a sissy

    a woman carpenter would not be supported by affirmative action, and a male nurse would be

    a woman would not be called a dyke if she owned a harley, and a man would not be called a wuss if he owned a vespa

    a child from divorcing family would be placed with whichever parent was best suited for the role, not automatically placed with the mother except in extreme circumstances

    women would have to pay alimony

    a jobless woman would not neccisarily be considered a "domestic" and a jobless man would not automatically be considered a "bum"

    a man in the interior decorating business, or in the fashion industry would not be thought of as a fag, nor would a woman plumber or auto mechanic be assumed to be a lesbian

    as you can see, this is not something that's going to be fixed overnight.
