“And whenever you pray, do not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, so that they may be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward. But whenever you pray, go into your room and shut the door and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.” (Matthew 6:5-6)

People are drawn to church through fear created by priests and such. It is about ego rather than God, about saving yourself instead of saving others. We are asked to donate to church where does this money go, some of it may go to charity but most will pay for luxuries. Did Jesus advise we treat ourselves to luxuries?

Its more about reminding those that were saved by the sacrifice made by Christ that it was he who did the saving that was to be done, and in whom we should show out gratitude reflected in our lives

BTW our church does not pass collection plates nor actively seek donations of ANY kind
