Obviously this not the case in all circumstances, and meaning no disrespect to either belief, what does everyone else think?

That being, that those that are more associated with the hemisphere of their brain attributed with creativity are in fact inclined to be believers, and those that are more associated with the hemisphere of their brain attributed to logic are inclined to be atheists or even agnostics. Those who use both hemispheres, however, are stuck in the middle, and have the harder task of deciding which way to truly go.
This is way too simple and is only a mere thought experiment. I wouldn't hold claim to it in any way, other than the fact that I do see it as a plausible, foundational basis, although life experiences, such as what you are demonstrating above, in fact guide people more so to their given 'beliefs'.

If people are strong enough to break out of the ifluence once created by their guardians, then they will have the liberty to be whatever they want to be. The problem is that most of the people are just not spiritually strong, they just go with the crowd, and don't ask any questions. Personally, I think it is so sad how much emphasis we give to religion. Hey, it is not our life, and it is man-made.

There does appear to be many atheists who claim to have been raised under Catholic influence and have since rejected religion all together.

well i believe that it has to do with the old catholic men that are supposedly in charge. we all know them. the ones that say do this and dont do that and gays will go to hell. those tend to drive the young away. mainly cause the young know better. and they say these are idiots. i have been a catholic my whole life... i too have a certain amount of, how could i say it, special attention that i would like to give them. i believe myself to be a devout catholic and have been so since that one day the all my questions were answered. a lot of catholics lose faith and then return... i think about half of my youth ministers did. this is actually when you see it quite normal. a faith seems to strangle you with its believes... but looks can be decieveing... for John Paul II said once on youth day when one of the bishops was talking about how they were the church of the future... he stands and says... they are not the church of the future they are the church of today. "dont let them put you down because your young, instead be an example of faith, purity..." i forget the rest its im timothy if you really want to know. but you must remember one thing that i tell you... Jesus came here to show us one thing... all you need to do Gods will and go to heaven is love... everything else is errelevent. so be aethiest i really dont care some of my best friends are aethiest but whatever you do love... "it cures both the one that recieves it and the one that gives it." some quote

Sounds Plausible
I was raised Catholic and actually went to a tiny (and shitty, I might add) Catholic school for nine years. I am in the "stuck in the middle" category, using both hemispheres, which I'm sure most people interested in philosophy do, where logic and creativity need to come together to broaden your view and to learn to accept things. I never could quite accept Christianity, but I rarely feel that I could truly be an Atheist.October 20, 2006

Yeah, it's hard isn't it? I share your predicament. I never went to catholic school, and I've never gone to a catholic church, but 3 people who are very close to me have. They are also confused in their faith. They were sculpted as a child around catholism and as soon as their parents let them, they left christianity altogether. The sad part of this is that half of me thinks this is okay, but the other half wishes they had given God another chance. MadisonPlease register or login to comment! It's totally free
