While visiting Bayfield, WI, I found a used book store and had a good conversation with an older guy who worked there. I bought lots of old books and I didn't realize the slip he put into my bag until I got to my hotel and found it. It says:
...the form(s) we impose on the FORMLESS... ...reflects (in some way) our own limitations...
It was followed by the man's initials. Please tell me what this quote means to you. I have my own ideas of what it means to me, personally, but I thought it was interesting and I want to know what else it could mean to different people.

Maybe in labeling something abstract (formless)(like love or time or whatever) we forget that these concepts are abstract and consider them only for their imposed definitions. In a sense, we dumb down abstract concepts so we can understand/talk about them (we give a form to them) but in doing so we cause them to loose part of their meaning. It reflects our own limitations coz we can't actually fully describe all of the subtle nuances of everything without this dumbing down.
It's the difference between reading something in a book and actually experiencing it for yourself.

The conventions (forms) that we try to impose on those that are perceived to be less enlightened (formless)than ourselves reflect our self-imposed personal limits and therefore show how unenlightened we really are. The limited trying to impose limits on the unlimited.

Forms and formless16% Voted for by nanrek, mudgod.
It is verbal nonsense written by someone who wanted to impress you! Finding forms in the formless is what makes us great. A sculptor imposes form on a formless rock or piece of wood and creates a piece of art. A mathematician finds patterns in formless pieces of reality and discovers the solution to an unsolved math problem. The artist and mathematician have transcended human limitations by inventing or discovering new forms.

personaly I think as it relates to the reader, it has no meaning, first one must know what it means to the auther, It could be related to so many different things , but not colectivly

To form is to think, To form others is to limit. To be open takes freedom, To be formless takes a loss of mind. And as far as the man leaving his initials, instates that he, infact, formed you into your own opinion of him.
That is my meaning of this quote.

my takeVoted for by a woman to love.
I think that this quote is merely referring to the idea that we as human beings tend to want give name or reason to ideas and concepts that are difficult to comprehend or understand …
the way we view these issues or the way that we approach things that are considered alien , abstract or unusual is a direct reflection of who we are as people ,our educational background , cultural awareness , mind set and prejudices . all of these ideas comprised together are quite restraining and constrictive in their form .
many people are afraid to look beyond their usual or normal scope of knowledge or practice , for a fear of being or feeling out of depth or maybe just the fear of falling short somehow is enough to stop them in their tracks . these premises are some which I consider to be quite tragic indeed .
I firmly believe that there is nothing like acquiring new knowledge . there is nothing like embracing the unknown , pushing yourself to the limit . this my friends is living life to its fullest , to deny oneself the chance to find out what one is truly made of , what else life has to offer is like being buried alive . this does not make for a good and productive living experience , but I also realize that this path is an acceptable one that is chosen by many , one that limits us from achieving a total and complete understanding of who we are and what the purpose of our existence is truly supposed to be ...
