Absolute Values

Absolute value incorporates the belief that certain attitudes are really true, and others really false, to the kind of thing the universe is and the kind of things we are.

My question is if nothing is self-evident, cannot nothing be proved? Similarly, if nothing is obligatory for its own sake, nothing is obligatory at all.

  I do believe in certain absolutes. If something is in my hand, it IS in my hands. Some (Techno) may argue that maybe I only THINK it's in my hand (and maybe I'm a bug having a dream that I'm a girl having a dream that I'm a mouse daydreaming about being human an mars that's having a nightmare about being me holding something in my hand). But, aside from...that, if there is something in my hand, it's there. If you add another one, there will be 2 of that something in my hand. There's no way around it.

  I also hold there are certain moral absolutes. For instance, I don't imagine there to be a situation where rape is anything but wrong.

    No. I defend gay people because they are consenting adults. Rape is not consenting. I have never said I believe gay people are born gay.

    I just wanted to be clear on where you stand, one never knows without asking, It has been my experience that most people who support they gay lifestyle also suport the Idea , Do what ever makes you feel good.

Rather than noticing that these people don't think being gay is wrong, you assume they'll let ANYTHING go. It is your connection of homosexuality with some sort of chaotic sinning culture that has lead to your "experience" of people saying you should do whatever makes you feel good. Such people scarcely exist outside of poorly written TV villains.

Some even say that one 'ought to do what makes them feel good'.

    Hedonists don't exist in pure form. I've been described as hedonist. I took an online test once that weighed various different traits and I scored 90% in hedonism. I kinda have to agree. But I am not so involved with doing what feels good that I disregard others. Forcing yourself on someone just cause it feels good is malicious. Most people labeled hedonists are not malicious, just active in some self-indulgence and perhaps a little irresponsible.
