If our spirits maintain a physical manifestation of sorts(ex: ghosts) would the problems we had in life stay with the spirit? For example, a man has lived all his life blind, and has become who he was because of having to adapt. Would his spirit be blind after death, because his spirit is who he was, or would he start fresh and then become someone along with something else?

Well...28% Voted for by symmetrical chaos, Rewrite.
Physical maladies, absolutely not. Mental/spiritual maladies, absolutely yes.
If you are a deranged horrid black hearted person, your not getting a fresh start after death (thats a choice only the living can make [unless your mormon]).

Why would you need eyes when you're dead anyway?

That is a good question, but isnt an answer to mine. Perhaps, if there is life after death (which I suppose is part of the question I'm asking) one might need eyes or some kind of sensory organs?
-
-
There is no answer to life after death, hence my question. There can only be questions.
-
-
.
-
Then how would a blind person confirm reality? Does one therefore need eyes to realise?
-
.
-
See...perhaps there is some kind of reality after death
-
-
Therefore, there may be some kind of reality during a life.
-
-
But what if there is no life after death because we don't really die? We go to another place like another plane but in the future we could still return to Earth but just a different person with the same personality.
-
-
There is only "what ifs" it would seem.
-
-
Totally off the subject but do any of you think that maybe one day all these what if questions will be answered and that a person will know if we have souls, how the world was made etc. Or is it just impossible???
-
In a sea of infinite possibilities anything is possible.

I respect that you believe that, but please be careful not to post a -this is how it is- comment. I dont like preachers, I like opinions.
-
What , you dont think this is my oppinion,....whos do you supose it might be , I am not a preacher eather
-
Does the flesh not also return?
-
Er...I simply ask that you make sure it is understood that this is your opinion and that you're not stating this as a fact. I'm sorry, I didnt mean that you are a preacher. Anyway, on this particular subject...Um...Its a religious one and I'd rather not go that direction.
-
Without involving "religeon" then the only possition one could take would be that there is no spirit ,and no place for anything to be carried with us to. Sorry, I thought you were refering to some sort of existance beyond the phisical death. Grant: the flesh will be raised up after the resurection.
-
huh?
What if god doesnt exist anyway? -
Ce if God doesnt exist neither does a spirit, However thats kind of a mute point, its like me asking "if you dont exist how could you make that post?" What you believe has has nothing whatsoever to do with what is or isnt. The same for what I believe.

Blindness is physicalVoted for by Applehead.
so in the realm of the spiritual I think not. Maybe he would carry with him the lessons he has learned from living as a blind man.

Oh, that is a good point. Yes...but then, that was just an example. What about mental maladies? What if someone is insane in life, will they be so in death?
-
I suppose that depends on whether you think your mind is the same as your spirit?
-
That is part of the question I'm asking though. Is it? What do you think? Our minds are tied into who we are as a person, of course. So, are our spirits the sum of who we are?
-
Personally my spirit is seperate from my mind. Our minds are most of who we are when tied to the physical world i believe our spirit helps us manage life in the form of dreams. By this I mean that our spirit helps our mind sort through all the confusion.
-
So, perhaps the spirit is the being behind our subconcious?
-
Don't take my word for it but I'd say our spirit is our subconscious. Our mind is our conscious thought. I am pressuming all this though as I have not researched the subconscious.
-
Perhaps not, but it is an idea. One that makes sense actually...thank you.
-
*"So, perhaps the spirit is the being behind our subconcious?"* No, I wouldn't agree with this. The spirit is a 'state', and one of the embodiements of a person's entity. A person's spirit can become dormant and lifeless, in which it does not play an active role up until the point where it becomes tainted (and manifests the essence of 'death' itself). A person's spirit and a person's flesh cannot live in harmony with each other, and as the sin of man has greatened down the generations, without the Holy Spirit being in connection with our spirit, the flesh will always win. One of the two will win, but not both. The soul, however, is of the conscious and sub-conscious self, and is the channel for the two. Either the flesh will vie control over the soul, or the spirit will.
-
-
"The soul, however, is of the conscious and sub-conscious self, and is the channel for the two. Either the flesh will vie control over the soul, or the spirit will." "So when we die the spirit will control the soul?" So we are three, spirit, soul, consciousness. Like Father, Son and Holy Ghost. Connection. The soul being the connection between The Holy Spirit (As in when we die we are one with God) and when we are alive, our human self, our conscious being. So there is no gateway to the soul for our soul IS the gateway either to life in material existance or death/new life with our spiritual father. If this sounds like BS I'd appreciate you telling me ;) But I still love it.

I see what you are saying, Tech. However I disagree. It is my belief that the soul and the spirit are one. I believe there are three pieces to oneself: the spirit, the mind, and the body. The 'flesh' as you call it, determinds the most primal needs, such as food and mating. The mind creates the opinion. The spirit equates to the heart. This is just what I believe, but from such, I wonder how tightly the three are connected. However, I do thank you for your comment and opinion.

"and as the sin of man has greatened down the generations," Do you really think we have gotten worse or maybe there is more bad because there are more people? "The soul, however, is of the conscious and sub-conscious self, and is the channel for the two. Either the flesh will vie control over the soul, or the spirit will." So when we die the spirit will control the soul? -
The spirit equates to the heart
By your statement haven't you answered the original question? You asked if the spirit took physical ailments with it but in your last statement you clearly believe that the 3 are separate. So by your theory no. The Spirit does not take any Physical ailments with it. It could however take with it characteristics that it obtained in the physical realm. For example the feeling of dominance if they are the type to always be submissive to anyone. Kind of like we talk about breaking a horses or a dogs spirit. -
No, I dont think I did answer my question because, although I do believe there are three parts, I also believe those parts are the pieces of a whole. Such as a body having arms and legs. I wonder if in death those three parts are separated or simply the whole changes into a different whole, and if so, does the new whole remain the identity of the past whole? And do our physical and mental issues make us who we are? Keeping of the characteristics of life, I agree with you on that, but the physical problems have a hand in creating characteristics... A simpler example: If one feels fat and is over weight in life, do they feel such in death?
-
Feel
Yes, I would THINK that they would feel fat. Or even still feel ugly, and since yesterday I have thought some about this. I don’t know if I equate walking or shaking hands with after death. But I suppose that if you did and you had something wrong with your leg that caused a limp you would continue to limp after death, even though there would be no pain causing that limp. -
*"Do you really think we have gotten worse or maybe there is more bad because there are more people?"* Sins are carried on through lineage. This can be broken through repentance, but otherwise, you take on the burdens of your forefathers. It's called 'hereditry'. There has always been sin since the fall. But it becomes easierly expressed and bigger a burden for each generation, however, I don't know if this can still be counted as prevalent now (ask mudgod about all that theology stuff).
-
-
"This can be broken through repentance, but otherwise, you take on the burdens of your forefathers. It’s called ‘hereditry’." Could this be a reason for genes that are God given? Its possible, God decided we have to work at getting into heaven and better our "forefathers" by not only facing the trials of our own lives but by also carrying around the burden of our ancestors. Hhhmm maybe. If this is the case who or what decides where the genes go nature or God. I would like to think God, then we would have more of a personal attachment to the ancestors we are working with, rather than a lucky dip.
-
-
Ah, so if one would still limp after death, then would a blind man still not see?
-
The spirit
I think the spirit is seperate from the mind. I think the mind is created when we are on Earth and that the soul is what keeps us alive. But then I also think that the soul can have knowledge and think and remember, which as you've said could be the subconscience part of us. But then I am not sure. I also believe that souls still live on after death. So in all I believe a soul just learns. So whatever our personality or our actions the soul takes in the knowledge but its personality doesn't change. Does that make sense? -
Yeah makes sense. I like the way you say "So in all I believe a soul just learns."

Spirit Maladies?Voted for by Maddhattress.
I'm not exactly sure. I think though that the spirit may take the maladies with them because the malady was part of the creation of who they were in life. Then again, they say death is a purification of sorts.

According to the Word, some purification methods can be used to alleviate problems in relation to those who had suttle deaths without the imminence of hearfelt repentance (due to the abruptness of the occurence). However, bondage can and often does become of the spirit, and lingers on after death.
-
Ah yes, but then we come to the point and never-ending debate of religion. We cannot know the truth of it until our very deaths.
-
yes, so the question is a matter of opinion. That's why I tend to fare away from questions like this, because it just becomes a fight between 'pagan-like' beliefs, christians, and atheists who like to nudge both parties (but preferably the christians; they just laugh at the pagans/wiccans/new age).
-
Yes, of course. I understand what you are saying, and I dont currently wish to get into an argument on religion. Much too messy. I do thank you for your opinion, however. It is simply what I was asking for.

As close to deathVoted for by wegg20.
I recently listened to a stroke victum who lost complete control of her body and it took her 8 years to make a full recovery. However, I believe she was as close to death and the spirit world as a person can get. She described life as being a bridge through time and I don't believe that anything that she accomplished in her life had any bearing when she was in the state of near death. It seemed that everything she did good or bad only had relevence in the living world. Without others around to analyze your behavior it doesn't matter what you've done. Without others to tell you about it and reinforce it you will ultimately forget it as well and lose your sense of self.
