Why do people try to enforce laws that keep things from certain age groups?

I mean how many people once they turn 21 get drunk off there ass and stay that way for a couple years until they realize its stupid. In some other countries you can have a beer or a glass of wine at any age and when they get older, it's no big deal. So why do people try to stop it at certain ages thereby making it more of a big deal when they are finally legal.

    i think 21 is extremely high for drinking age, but i can see the reasons, people think that they will be more responisble by then but truthfully, kids can get it easily at any age. but really, i think this is weird, you can buy guns and join the army at the age of 17 in the states but you cant buy alcohol until your 21. does anyone but me think that something is screwy there.???

    I agree the drinking age is too high, but laws separating age groups is a good thing. I don't want 9 year olds voting, marrying, driving, etc

    as I want to eat, drink, and be merry with a Bud in both my hands, I agree on the drinking age when push comes to shove.

    It's so high because the people as a whole make it that. If the drinking age was eighteen, thousands and thousands more people would die each year, most within the ages of 18-20...That's a lot of people, but we freak out when a soldier dies in Iraq and say that it's unfair for him to be there...Why would he join the Army if he knew he was going to Iraq anyway? Why would someone drink to the point of drunkeness and get in a car and drive? Because he wanted to in the first place. When you're drunk, you can't controll yourself correctly, so you'll do things you regret, or never get to regret because you're dead.

    The last thing I want to do is find my boyfriend's car mangled up in a ditch and his dead body twelve feet from the car after he goes through the windsheild.

    Hopefully our views on safety will change with time. I mean everyone's. Not just people under age 40.
