What roles does music play in people's lives?

Recently I have had to read many things for school saying that music has no or little value any more, and I love music and therefore would like to see why people listen to music and what they get from it.

  • Many nihilists

See it as an escape from meaninglessness. It certainly is captivating and can have a great degree of bearing on one's life; if you let it.

Really I don't see what benefit it could possibly serve evolutionarily, which is one of the great mysteries surrounding its nature and beauty.

  • for me

it draws me into a mood. (yes my music is labeled by emotion:$) if i want to feel sad, i would listen to "bed of lies" or "rest stop"From matchbox 20. if i am feeling a little rebelliant i listen to "wipe that smile off your face" from our lady peace(i know it sounds horrible but it is a good song!!!), if i feel like i am having a bad day, ill listen to "bad day" by daniel powter, or "simon" by lifehouse. and if i am feeling a little gushy, i will listen to "everything" or "you and me" by lifehouse, or other gushy deeply lyrical love songs.

  • The rhythm of the world.

Music is what ever you make it. Its sounds that move the world. Everything in life has a rhythm, or a song. It’s an art, and art is not safe… Enjoy…

  • Influence

Music has been a life saver for me through out my life. It has been their for me no matter what. To sooth or motivate or even fuel my anger. Without it I would be a different person.
