The European Union...God-given or Hell-sent?

The European Union has been favoured long throughout history, and originates really back from the Roman Empire (the idea, not the geography). Many argue that it is "God-given", or what God wants. Is it?

  • What does God have to do with Europe?

Y'all can't be serious. Why does something powerful have to be one of either good or bad? At least there's some counterbalance to American hegemony over the non-Chinese dominated areas of the world, which is to say someone who will actually allow capitalism to work as it was supposed to and buy goods from the LDC's of the world. Of course, French agricultural policy is no better than the American, but the cool part is they get the Germans to pay their subsidies for them. Also, I think it's better that the EU has managed to take an economic approach to ending suppression in Spain (a little), in Greece, in Portugal, and to some extent in East Germany. Nothing like that happens with anybody in the American hemisphere.

  • Revelation

We can tell from the books of Daniel and Revelations that the Roman empire would continue to this time. It's final configuration will be a union of 10 nations or groups of nations that will soon form as the finalized European Union (7th resurrection of the Holy Roman Empire). This is the beast of Revelations. The beast being controlled by a woman (always a church in prophecy). This signifies that the vatican will play a major role in the development, cohesion, and direction of the beast. I don't know if this situation is what God wants or has ordained. I do know that He said it would come about so there is no surprise. It is just a short time now until the fulfillment of this prophecy. Watch for the Palestinians to take over half of Jerusalem next.

  • pot calling kettle black

This "revelation" may in fact mean that we ARE all one with each other and the universe. It is only ego that seperates us. I can therefore understand why a fundamentalist sect (naturally egoic), such as the one who decided this would be an "antichrist" agenda, would find the revelation threatening to the fundamentalist agenda of seperation and spiritual hierachy. Hence their label "beast" or "antichrist". It is like a pot looking for a kettle to call black (looking in the mirror and blaming the mirror for the reflection).

  • books?

Where not all these books written by men? How is it that people believe all of this? I mean this with the utmost respect as I have been wrestling with the fear of God for 35 years.... I am left believing that we have NO IDEA what is going to happen tomorrow. I'm sorry, but words in a book show me no proof.

  • Hell-sent

The idea that this was sent from God is, in my opinion, absurd. Revelation talks of the Antichrist ruling "the beast...was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation." And implies there will be a uniting of nations under one, under the "beast".

Ignoring the religious angle, let us take the political view: immigration laws cannot be made harsher in order to merely control the population - because under the EU we are obliged to allow any Europeans in.

Back to the Antichrist idea, if the EU continues and grows we will see this Antichrist...and I rather suspect that s/he will arise from Brussels...
