Why must everyone "convert"

Why do so many christian groups feel the need to rid the world of gay people, just because they do not like it, and because "their religion says it's bad". If we are not forcing you to because homosexual, why should you try to force us into being something that we aren't? If I started a new part of christianity that said brown is the devils color, hundreds or years from now, would people be trying to get rid of the color brown? The bible has been changed over these hundreds of years, it has had to happen, there is no way it could stay exactly the same. How do we really know that what the bible says about homosexuality was not just one persons view, or a small group of peoples? From what I understand, god didn't write the bible himself, and evens gods workers go askew sometimes, so how can you justify that all of it really is gods view?

For the most part I would like to know this: Why must people try to convert everyone into the same person, with the same views, and the same sexuality, when it is everythings nature, not to be that way.

  • Why Convert

I think people try to change everyone because of human nature. It is in their nature to try to change people. They say it is protecting their god, but really, I feel that they just take their own views, and switch up the bible (if that goes with their religion) to try to make it support it. I think it also has to do with background in their families. Say a christian extremist read the bible when they were brought up with a family that loved homosexuals like anyone else. I don't think they'd view it that way.

And speaking for myself, it is out of concern for you and the happiness that you may or may not enjoy in your life. I care enough about people to want the best for them ..even if they hate me for it.

  • i would say

I would say it is because it is hard to except people who are different from them. you can see this in not only sexuality but in religions. everyone professes that their religion is the one and only right religion. same as sexualities. people understand what they are. they dont understand why people are not exactly the same as them.

  • WHY?

(I wrote this in a previous post but it applies here too)

The fact that Christians (true christians) should not try to convert others to their religion? What is that? The whole purpose of the Christian religion is to convert people and save them from hell. Remember that's why they're trying to convert people. Not because they hate your beliefs or opinions, but because they truly believe that you're going to hell and they want to save you. Christians can't stop caring what others believe because then they wouldn't be true christians. If they didnt care that you were going to hell, then they're not a christian at all.

  • Conversion

I agree that everyone wants others to change to be like them because its human nature, but i am basically talking about the christian side of it.

There are many kinds of christians, different denominations and upbringings end in different relationships with God. Everyone has an impression of what christians are like, but I think that most christians simply want to share God with the world because they know his absoloutely awsome love for them and feel his heartbreak when people of the world turn away from him. This is my reason for sharing the gospel. I feel myself that many 'religious' people give others the wrong impression of christians, as if we are judgemental and think we are more holy than everyone else. That we try to change them to make ourselves look like we are doing the right thing and so becoming 'better' christians. This is not the perception i want the world to have of christians. Just because we are 'saved' does not mean we are 'superhuman' and better than the people who arent.

So please dont get christians and their intentions wrong based on a few christian people that you may know. The idea is not to force anyone to be christian, we just do it out of love for god and his love for every single one of us. I think sometimes christians feel really helpless to show others God, which is maybe when they start to try and force people into it, thinking that they know its the right thing and whoever it is will thank them later, but this is humanity, not God.
