Okay, guys and gals, I want both sides to offer opinions here. Don't be mean to each other, but feel free to offer your opinion. Just to remain neutral: I have no opinion. If you want to know, I'm working on a paper about it. So, riddle me this: 1) What is marriage? 2) How has it evolved through the years? 3) How do you feel about same sex couple being allowed to marry? 4) Most importantly, why do you feel this way? *Please, don't say because it's wrong or people just deserve to choose. I want cold hard facts. Open dialogue backed by proof. The burden of proof rests with you. Riddle me?*

Topic talked to death30% Voted for by Energizer Bunny, pnktrky, Dwn.
I suggest you go through the popular topics on the homepage and you'll find a ton of topics covering this issue and related issues. This topic has been talked to death in the past. Basically, I can't see where restating our opinions again, just like in past topics will do any good. If you wish to know everyone's opinion on this I suggest looking into past topics. Nothing personal but this is getting repetitive.

easy solutionI have what I think to be a rather good solution. Since marriage is a "religious union between and man and a woman under God", then TECHINCALLY, ANY marriage should not be recognised by the state, but rather simply as a spiritual connection. Then, it is the decision of stricly the religious leader if they want to perform smae sex marriages. Meanwhile, there should be legal civil unions for everyone, that have the same benefits as marriage has right now. THere, everyone is happy. Homosexuals get all the rights they want, and don't ruin the sanctity of anything20% Voted for by morrison, bob2314.

I couldn’t disagree more with energizer. this is a perfectly good topic. It’s the general brake down of civility that’s repetitive. Now how to avoid this. I can’t speak for any other member nor do I wish to undercut the authority of the moderators so I will place this restriction only on myself. For the purpose of this one thread I will answer question and comments from Kay Lynn Kie only. You want this topic discussed fine but you don’t get to sit on the sideline and watch me perform you must participate. In the past this topic has been used by dishonest people to make the homosexuals and Christians fight on command. I am in no way assigning this motive to you! Or else I would not participate.

In order to put my words in the proper context you must know who I am . I am a bisexual man of 43 with an estranged wife and daughter who I love dearly. Now to the questions you posted. 1. To me marriage is a spiritual union between two people. 2. In its most basic form it was probably two people getting together for protection and procreation . It wouldn’t have taken long for some clan chief or church leader to see that this is a wonderful way to control the freedom of the population thus strengthening this leaders power. In my opinion the church would see this as a supply of new faithful to replace the old. The state would see this as an unending supply of frontline solders. Now where does love fit into this? It doesn’t at least in the view of the state it is interested only in the byproducts of love not in the emotion. The church is interested in the emotion only as a means to an end that being its solidification of power and its stability into the future. The homosexual does not fit into either view because the homosexual does not procreate thus it should not be encouraged . 3&4. Homosexual marriage or civil unions should happen because it is a question of freedom. Shouldn’t I get to decide who I associate with, who I love, who I live with and yes who I have sex with? Do I really have freedom if I can not make these decisions on my own?

actually there is somethingVoted for by pnktrky.
when ppl think of marriage they think of religion and so that is why gays have such a problem they dont put down religion but because of our norm of thinking of marriage as religion they put there heads in. all that gays want is the social union between to ppl that believe themselves to be in love... 50% divorce rat remember. the icometax stuff and all the othe govt and society stuff we get for being married. personally i dont see why not... seperation of church and state. they are not asking marriage thats religious they are asking for a social union. and you dont have to do anything for or against them they just want some rights. that is the only missing information that ppl seem to forget in other diolouges but i still agree with EB topic has been discussed throughly no need for repition every week.

cons: Sorry this list is going to be short, i cant see many so if you have one, i will be willing to add it.
1) homosexuals with de-sanctify the right of marriage
2) marriage was intended by god to be between a man and a woman (side note: kinda funny how love isn't mentioned in this...)
3) because god says homosexuality is wrong. -
PRO GAY MARRIAGESame-sex unions are perfectly okay with me. If you love someone why should anybody care if it's the same sex? If they are truly who they say they are then it shouldn't matter to them who your partner is. And for the love of Christ will people stop putting this "Being gay is aginst GOD" because if there really is a god then im sure he would want us to be happy. If that person makes you happy then you should be able to be happy.Voted for by blackmidnight.
