I was thinking… Would it make sense, if there was there was no such thing as infinite, it’s only something that never ends, but does there have to be something on the other side, so wouldn’t that count as being infinite?

well...Voted for by ohsweetie2788.
infinite is one of those words we cannot imagine…its hard to imagine infinite, forever, eternity and neverending because we live such small lives compared to everything around us. infinite universe is the only explaination since it is so large and we cannot see the other side of it. i do believe the universe is infinite because there is no wall to end it all, it has to keep going on forever to make any sense at all instead of just stopping.

Inifinty might exist. It might not. Abstract ideas like infinity become what we want them to become, they change as we change. Nothing necessarily has to be real.

the thing is that nothing would make sense if everything had an end. (dont try to weedle the rest out of me… i dont know the secrets of life ok?)

Infinity musx exist mathematically, otherwise what would one divided by zero equal? However, weather the universe is infinite i think is doubtfull. This is mainly because, if the universe were infinite, then there would be an infinite number of planets, and therefore an infinite number of planets with life on, and an infinite number of planets with inteligent life, and an infinite number of planets with inteligent life that has made contact with our planet.

I think that everything ends sometime or some place so therefore infinity doesn't exist because nothing goes on forever, infinity is something we've made up because the scale & size of the universe is too difficult for us to comprehend.

Infinity pretty much has to exist.Voted for by justonewish.
What we call the universe includes matter and it includes void. So if matter stops existing after a certain physical point then from there on is a void. And if void stops existing after a certain physical point then from there on is matter. And since both matter and void are included in our universe, the universe must be infinite.

YES! It's easy to prove.Voted for by Evets.
Yes the infinite DOES exist, and can be proven very simply with mathematics:
If y'all can remember back to elementray school where you learned long division, you'd remember doing math problems like this:
10/3= (10 divided by 3 equals...) and if you calculate it out, you get 9.3333333333333333333333333 and so and so forth, for as long as you want to keep on calculating. If you take out a calculator, it will only have a finite number of three's, but that is only because the sceen is only so wide. Obviously you can't display such a number normally, so we just call it 9.33 repeating, and put a little line over the last three.
So there you go, an example of an infinite number. I hope this clears things up.

Ok, but if the infinite exists, then God can't. Or else he'd have to be the embodiment of infinity. Whatever, I'm an atheist so it doesn't really make sense for me either way. Hey! I could start praying to Infinity! (Or wait, do pagans already do that?)

Infinity is abstractVoted for by pointlessness.
*wow my first post on here lol*
Of course infinity has to exist mathematically it'd be pretty screwed without it but in the physical universe I believe that it doesn't exist because for example if the universe has existed for asn infinate amount of time wouldn't it all be the same temperature (thermal equilibrium I think it's called??) and if the universe can't be infinately big then why should it contain things that are infinitely small, anyway if it did then time would have to be able to be divided into infinately small scales meaning that things could theoretically travel at infinitly slow speeds, plus if time could be divided into infinatly small units wouldn't things be able to travel as fast as they liked (an infinitly small particle would be able to travel at an infinate speed) but if you think about it if yuo scale this infinitly small particle up to a normal sized particle because you can't divide by an infinate value then any particle should be able to travel at an infinate speed, which we know isn't possible (nothing can travel faster than light) that probably doesn't make sense but hey its late lol
Wow I just had another thought. To get to an infinate speed our particle would have to have an infinite acceleration which would give it an infinite mass (relativity) which should infinitly curve space, meaning that time stops giving our particle a speed of 0. Wow I've just proved myself wrong, oh well its a nice paradox, I might actualyl have a proper think about this in the morning.
In conclusion I believe that infinity exists as an abstract concept but doesn't exist in the physical universe (pointless!)
Wow you read all the way to the end lol please comment

InfinityVoted for by Beena.
Logically, infinity could not be there because it would have to arrive there gradually by something finite. But I think that when distances or quantities exceed so much by our human perception that they are beyond our view or are incomprehensible, then we define them as infinite.

I understand how its possible for something to never end, that concept isn't past me...I dont get why infinity is such a big deal. Simply put, it doesn't end, simply because if it ended, and later something exceeded it, then there would have to be a new theory invented...Infinity is the easiest way to scale any number, simply because you can continue on for eternity and never reach the end of the number scale
