Supressing Emotions

Is it healthy to do so? What are benefits? What are negatives?

  • Yes,No,Maybe so?

I myself find it, somewhat appealing, to supress certain emotions. Anger, hate, jealousy. All these things make us REACT instead of act and make us do stupid things. So in order to control such things Ive controlled my emotions and transformed them. If someone hits me, I feel the flicker of anger and rage, then think logically as to why they did this and whats my best course of action which usually is just walk away, let it go and forgive. What do you think? Should we supress or just let our emotions control us? Or is there middle ground?

  • for a little while only

I do not think it is healhy to repress emotions forever, they tend to bare heavy chains. but displaying your emotions in every instance can be dangerous. supress them for a short time and write them down in a journal or a diary or whichever you call it. it is much more healthy to do it this way. as long as no one reads it of course....

  • There was a study and research done

I believe it was back in the late 60s or early 70s but a lot was made of it on the TV at the time,People were encouraged to throw and break things as a release to anger, at least that was part of it , and what was found was that the more they released their emotion, the more it fed on itself, the more anger that was released the angrier they became.

  • hmmmm...

the real question here is do your control your emotions or do they control you? some emotions like hate, well prtty much all emotions, will you let them take hold of you and do as they wish without rigard to others or the outcome. i believe that emotions is something that should be controled but not supressed. there are many ways of taking your anger out of things... exercise is a very good one and it keeps you healthy. listening to music, games, are different ways but the best way is logic. does this bring good or bad to me.
