For fun?16% Voted for by Annabel Lee, Scrap, Sssid, -TheLoneWolf-.
” If you say getting drunk, then, I guess your stupid.”
Well, I never really argued otherwise…so, yes. Getting drunk is a major reason I enjoy going to parties. Or at leas the type of parties you seem to be describing.
It’s not merely the act of getting drunk though. I can do that on my own. That’s boring and somewhat dangerous. It’s the getting togehter with friends, meeting new people, crazy hijinks, flirting, waking up in strange and exotic gutters, etc.
There is, of course, nothing wrong with NOT drinking at these parties. I’ve done it on occasion and still had fun, and I know people that just plain don’t drink and still attend parties and have fun. No one gets together and taunts the person for not drinking. They might let them know how bizzare it is that they’re not going to drink, or try to persuade them to give it a shot, but nothing major.
The only ones that get any form of ostracism that I’ve seen, is when after they’re offered a drink they flip out and rant about how they don’t need to drink to have a good time. As if the offer of a drink was a personal assualt to their character. Acting like that is condescending and annoying. If you don’t want to be judged and labelled for not drinking (which doesn’t happen after about 8th grade as far as I’ve seen), have the decency not to judge others FOR drinking here and there.

I'm stupid8% Voted for by FireFairy, Approaching Autumn.
People go to parties to soicalize. If you believe that it’s a stupid explanation when some one responds with “to get drunk” well, than I guess it is in fact you who is the ingrate here, as that is the true reason some people attend. Maybe you’re just looking for an answer that isn’t quite there, because the overall* population of teens go to parties to get messed up or hang out with friends.

Parties???8% Voted for by Energizer Bunny, mbbg0.
Can you plz be a little more specific? Are you speaking of certain parties? or about something that might take place at a party? I would happily answer more appropriately if I knew what you were looking for in responses.

An Escape8% Voted for by Trisha Militia, ScorpioBlood.
I know that I usually go to parties just to have fun and escape the everyday stress of life. It’s sort of a release. I think it’s healthy to release yourself every once in a while.

Philosopher or not u really dont need to know why people go, or why u should. If u like it go, if u dont stay home it doesnt mater as long as a person can keep there down time and their responsabilitys seperate.

my thoughtVoted for by keyman7.
A great thinker once said that if all of man’s distractions were taken away, he would not know what to do with the miserable being that remained. What this means is that humans seem to need distractions to get away from the reality in which we dwell. We thrive on work, family, and of course fun. Parties are a great place to get away from the reality of the human condition. Ignorance is bliss, after all.

EscapeVoted for by Secil.
In most cases, an individual will attend a party to be a part of the crowd, socialize, and get away from work, school etc...As a part of the party, in some cases, there may be drinking involved (as well as drugs) and these things are usually done by people to escape from reality, release the built up stress, and "calm down" for a while. Of course this feeling of liberation is not permanant, it will only bring later troubles (illness from over drinking, loss of brain cells etc..)

the equationVoted for by Dwn.
The words people use , "party" and "fun" are both synonamous with with "sin" and "indulgence" they go to answer the call of thier carnal nature

It Just Hapens...Voted for by Sssid.
It is not the brightest of things to do but... it does happen. I am not a teen, but rather, a mature adult male. We (my partner & I) occasionally get invited out for a social gathering. Dancing & Liquor is involved, every body relaxes and generally has fun "throwing their names away"... As to why? Well there is no Why? it just happens. (not a good philosophical answer is it?)

Yes a very philosophical question. Maybe so they can be themselves, be more confident and have a laugh.

wtf
Keegan you make so little sense it seems as if you were drunk when you're typing all of these non-sense posts. The grammar is so weak that it interferes with the message you're trying to get across.March 20, 2005

Hey Authorize, or Keegan, or whoever you are, lighten up man. Alcohol in proper doses is perfectly healthy. In point of fact, without it, we would all die. It is being manufactured in our own bodies, though at smaller quantities. Maybe you've had some bad experiences with alcohol, but that doesn't mean you need to try to ruin it for the rest of us. I mean, I make the choice not to get drunk, but I do love a fine lager or ale. Evena dose or two of vodka is quite good from time to time. It doesn't have any major ill effects if done in proper quantities and such. I don't know what your problem is, but I'll tell you one thing from the perspective of a seasoned logician. Every comment on this page made by some of the people you've bashed made logical sense. Yours are personal opinions, not arguments. In several cases you used formal fallacies to try to make your point. I've read at least one ad hominem and one ignoratio elenchi. Shape up your logic. I'm 19, a Christian, and a conservative drinker, and I don't have much of a problem with alcohol at all. If you do, state your argument and we'll chat. Not opinion, mind you. Argument. Have a wonderful day.April 27, 2005
