As a philosophical athiest, its easy for me to say that religion for the most part is a really accurate metaphoric/philosophical guideline towards life, and how to live it. I see nothing wrong with it except when i see people worshiping the sacred books for the wrong reason. I used to go to church, and it was a small church, and they would sing and sing the songs and whatnot, preach the bible but not explain it. The priest would simply tell the stories, and the devout christians themselves didnt even understand their own religion. Understanding religion isn't knowing all the religous occurances that are inacurate and illogical from a myopic point of view, it should be looked into. Those stories that are taught in christianity, other religions too but im using christianity as an example, arnt that illogical. They are very philosophical towards how life should be lived, and lots of people misudnerstand it or misinerpret it. Such as the USA which is practically built around christianity, yet i see NO christain philosophical relevance anywhere, i just see lots of contradictions and corruptions like any other country. Its been corrupted over time because people lose interest in the philosophical meanings, and thats what organized religion used to be. What is it now aside from just "myths and legends and jesus stories"??? Look deeper, some of you do but most of you dont! Much of my conclusions from my inner knowledge and inner philosophical mind have been very similar to metaphoric stories in the bible and teachings of buddhism, and it all came from within me with no knowledge of any other religion. And with just my god mother telling me that my beliefs are very similar to other religions, i have concluded this, that religion is just metaphoric philosophy on life, and it is very accurate. What do you say?

How?
How do you prove your religious philosphy? One says, "God doesn't exisit". Another says, "Mine is the greatest God". And still another says, "My God is love and yet He corrects and punishes". What determines the correctness of ones philosophy? After all, dictionary.com defines philosophy as: the rational investigation of the truths and principles of being, knowledge, or conduct. I read many "philosophers" on this site but hardly hear any of the evidence, the "rational investigation of truth". Conclusions from "inner knowledge" are irrevelant. As Yogi Berra said; "A mental note isn't worth the paper it is written on". My position is that, when it comes to most things, especially religion,you can know the truth. Correct that, you MUST know the truth.

Religion and Philospohy
/'They are very philosophical towards how life should be lived, and lots of people misudnerstand it or misinerpret it."/
I agree with this observation. Religion and Philosophy runs like a railroad/way track. It runs parallel to each other. Both claims advocacy for truths. But Religion in today's times seems to me like the cloth we wear over our nakedness, on way to the Sunday mass while Philosophy is more like the undergarments we free in our closed bathrooms. the undergarments are sweet and short - the basic necessities. It is just almost good enough. (( The best of philosophiocal thoughts comes to many only here....atleast thats the case with me..lol)).
***
Very often, religion and philosophy can be a useful distraction and with equal favour a strong attraction.
***
But Man's recent history suggests that a bulk of humanity lives under some dogma or the other. Hence Religion wants peace but the way it is propogated creates conflict. Philosophy and Philosophers tries to fit in somewhere in between. It would be very interesting to know who will win the day.

Where
Does one gain such a concept of wrong or right. There is no reason why, if God does not exist, that religious supremacy should dominate the world. Your world is, in a universal sense, but "a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing."
If you acknowledge nothing, then why claim you are something, without will or cause to do so, that will gain any sort of benefit beyond this non significance.
Your mentality is poisonous.

i didnt say anything about the god idea
but what i was saying, as a pure athiest (understand this really isnt my type of topic in philosophy because its very grand and really irrational to try to draw conclusions for religion), that there are stories and poetry within sacred books that give a very enlightening insight towards life which is logically and philosophically true and i dont conclude that from a philosophical point of view, its easy for me to say this because look at this and tell me there isn't some philosophical accuracy towards life. Im not saying religion is entirely accurate, some is corrupt, but its the fact that people misunderstand their own religion and dont see deeply into the philosophical point of view. So just read this section---To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away;
A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace.
Focus on that poem for a minute, try to understand it. and then tell me if im crazy or not.

Unless someone has the point of view god has the only way to even get close to the truth is by learning from one another because more than one point of view together creates something more.
But yes there are philosophers out there that are stubborn and just want to prove themselves right and will never change their opinion.

ever wonder why every pot head suddenly becomes a "philosopher"?
Its like, ""Ohh i know the meaning of life but i forgot to write it down...*puff*" ---a good friend stated that making fun of pot heads.Those ppl are idiots though, and contradictory because if one were to be a philosopher before they started smoking weed, they would conclude the meaninglessness in smoking, and thereby not even starting. Their not even philosophers when their high anyway, they draw random irrational statements out of their heads about "life" and think they are philosophers. Its funny, but iv seen quite a few of those people on this website.

You must tell us the meaning of life before telling us what is meaningless in our life...

You would have to establish the "meaninglessness in smoking" before assuming it as mere fact--as well as establish what qualifies as "meaning" in things.
"Their not even philosophers when their high anyway, they draw random irrational statements out of their heads about "life" and think they are philosophers"
Judge what is said, not who said it and what they were doing when they did. Hitler can utter a truth, a lunatic can utter a truth, and someone under the influence can utter a truth.
"Its funny, but iv seen quite a few of those people on this website."
Me too. I've even been one of them!

Man is a fallible ....
"Man is a fallible being. He can never be sure of his steps. What he may regard as answer to prayer may be an echo of his pride. For infallible guidance man has to have a perfectly innocent heart in capable of evil."M.K (Mahatma)Gandhi, Sept 1924.
