Barak Obama?

Really I'm curious about the thoughts of any American Democrats on this, though all other opinions are welcome (and even if they weren't, I guess I couldn't stop you could I?). I can only imagine the Conservative opinion of him is rampantly bad and I may just ignore your posts

I hate to jump on the extremely-early-for-presidential-discussion bandwagon, but it's hard to not get caught up in some of it.
  • I like him
I know he gets criticized for "inexperience in NATIONAL politics" and "riding on charisma", but I don't really see it. The experience he does have is positive--I can't imagine another term or 2 in the Senate will cause him to out of no where be overwhelmed.

And what's so bad about charisma? I think people think he's "riding charisma" because it's so noticeable--and not because he SO MUCH (he has a good amount though), but because it's ASTONISHING for a politician to have any. ESPECIALLY a democrat. It's time for liberals to have a firm and passionate voice as their leader, not a pandering excuse for a "diplomat".

If you were to ask someone to describe important traits in a leader, most of the time intelligence, decisiveness, compassionate but firm, and charisma rank highly. If you ask them to describe most political leaders, "charisma" is replaced by "s/he was awkwardly funny that one time! Almost human even". He's a good speaker with a sharp mind, and I can't see that as being so awful.

And instead of spending so much time criticizing him for his good traits (?!?), why not address his actual political views. I think he's actually the best we got out there on top of his sharpness on the field

His views on Iraq? I think he summed it up nicely: "I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars...You want a fight, President Bush? Let's finish the fight with Bin Laden and al-Qaeda, through effective, coordinated intelligence, and a shutting down of the financial networks that support terrorism, and a homeland security program that involves more than color-coded warnings." The dreaded charismatic? Yeah sure, but it gets the point across. He's willing to go to war, and in other interviews shown an eagerness for more INVOLVEMENT and DIPLOMACY of hot areas like North Korea and Iran.

Gay marriage? He respects the religious form of the word (a little too much), but refuses the constitutional amendment banning it as well as supportive of civil unions.

UNIVERSAL HEALTH CARE. Good lord how does America not have this already? It's embarrassing people.

Most of his other stances I either side with or more than tolerate. He looks out for the common people GREATLY, but isn't oblivious to the needs of corporations. I don't want to go on more because I've already lost the interest of the mildly interested, but I think there's something to look into here.

I assure you, there's a good chance the negative press you've heard about him (he's charismatic! lol the rest is hard to do, he adequately tosses criticism aside with his charisma, so there's nothing else to attack but the charisma itself) is generated by conservatives that fear him as a threat. That push weaker opponents further.

  • Only a man with sexual drive can lead a nation
The greatest leaders were men who had strong libidos. Look at Washington, Jefferson, JFK, Clinton. These were real leaders, and all of them "cheated" on their wives. They were men who were able to seduce a nation with their virility. They inspired. They made a difference. They were true leaders.

Today we have impotent leaders out there because the Religious Right falls for their talks of virility. I saw Bush once giving a speech on C-span where he almost fell off the podium. He looked like a kid in an outfit that was two sizes too big for him. He's just a puppet, not a leader.

We need a true leader in the White House. That means a man who has extramarital affairs.
