I read this article today in Newsday saying that the interracial couples in many of today's TV shows are glossed off too casually. That they don't address the conflict that arises between two people of different races becoming close, especially intimately. That they ignore what "defines the 'interracial couple'"--the conflict.
Is this accurate? Is it impossible for two people of different backgrounds to come together just as easily as two people of the same color? Or is this just a step in the right direction?

StupidWhat a waste of time lol I left this article scratching my head.Voted for by Weydon.
The interracial couple in Heroes and My Name Is Earl don't spend time biting their nails on what the world thinks of them? It's not what the show is about. A comedy and a show about people who have SUPER POWERS are not stopping and arguing about skin color. Even the more dramatic ones like Grey's Anatomy--if the two people want to be together, why would they worry about their races? AND, there have been episodes in some of the shows listed that deal with disapproving families.
"Ignoring the elephant in the room?" They're making an elephant out of nothing. I'm not saying it's ALWAYS accepted now and there should never be shows dealing with it. I liked Crash. I see racism around me. I'm just saying in many areas it's (obviously) more accepted, and acknowledging the possibility to come together like no-biggie is fine. Why scold the people who think it's not a big deal and have had positive experiences in the relationship just because you came from a time/area that didn't? Maybe YOUR interracial relationship was DEFINED by the conflict and hard work to get passed skin colors, but not everyone else does. 2 out of 3 of the only relationships that actually meant something to me were girls of a different race, and it was a non-issue. My best friend (not including relations) is black and it's a non-issue. We know there's a difference in our race, we know there are stereotypes against us--we'll even joke about it. But it's not a thing to worry about. There was ONE time where I briefly dated this Indian girl where her traditional parents were mildly disapproving of me--but there's like a 1,000 reasons to disapprove of me! And we broke things off for different reasons anyway.
