  i do not believe i should be forced to say sorry for something which i have not done, i was on the computer when this guy just ran at me and, then i get told off, and told to say sorry, this is not right. i am in school at the moment and do not like being accused.

    I don't completely understand the situation 'cause it's confusing, but doing things like apologizing for things-even if we didn't do those things-is part of being an adult. Sometimes you have to do things you feel you shouldn't have to do. It's part of life so learn to deal with it now.

    If its worth the argueing then fight it but otherwise say your sorry knowing you didnt do anything and move on.

    Try to make the other understand your point of view

    All conflicts are created by misunderstandings. Misunderstandings occur because of a communication problem. Are you effectively communicating your feelings to the intrusive party? Can they possibly understand? What is the context/culture of your communication? There are several factors. In the New York City subway system you apologize profusely if you accidently bump into someone even if it is obviously rush-hour and physicall contact is inevitable. An "i'm sorry" is a good deflection for a knife-wielding thug who has woke up on the wrong side of the bed that morning. It boils down to pride or survival. With a thug, my bet goes to swallowing my pride and apologizing for even being born. With others, you have to weigh in power. What power that person has over you and what power you have. If you are not bigger and stronger physically, you better hope you are within a system that will protect you in such a case. The best case is to always resolve something between you and him. If you don't feel like saying sorry, don't say it. If you do it is because you lack power. Seek power. Go to your teacher. Or beat that kid up.

    I'm with Steph on this one. Why create a big issue and go down fighting over pure nonsense, when you can merely smile and say "Yeah, sorry" and go back to your life?
    
    Only fight the fights you need to. Enjoy everything else.

    There are multiple ways and means of apologizing. In this instance you can apologize simply because you are sorry, but not necessarily guilty of but merely feeling sorry for the fact, that a disturbance was caused.

    stand up for yourself in those situations if it's really important... if you won't stand up for that, how will you stand up for more important things, like what is right and what you believe in?
