Can an army exist without war?

What good is an army if they never go to war? War is the epitome of being a soldier. Every soldier wants to come back from war as a hero. If we allow men and women to be soldiers then shouldn't we allow them to have their dream come true ?, namely, WAR. And if that is true, then we have a responsibility as a nation to create war so that their dreams can come true.

We have armies to protect our countries, not attack others. that is the main purpose of an army. protection.

  • the army SHOULD serve one purpose
DEFENSE. That is the only REAL purpose for the existance of an army. Unfortunately we have abused that concept in America. Just like you have your fists, feet, elbows, teeth, etc. as your personal weapons. They are meant for your defense. Let me say that again. DEFENSE.

I must say that your statement lacks any logic. We have nuclear missiles that can destroy all life on the surface of the earth. That is there only mission. By your statements we should just fire them all off. By your train of thought what good is it to have nuclear missiles if we are not going to use them?

Potential threat. Even with world peace and absolute unity, we would still have to be wary of aliens.
