Ennui--bored to death.

The utter boredom of the mind and soul. Not just nothing to do. Nothing to be. When all of existence is exhausted and all pursuits are fruitless.

I think it takes place after a spiritual death of sorts.

What are your thoughts on this kind of boredom?
  • Boring Boorish bored Boor.
When a person becomes so bored with existing that even suicide is an option, they aren't really human anymore are they? These could be the sociopaths maybe, no regard for human life. They'd do anything just to not be so bored. They don't have a fixed point of any kind. Life is less inspired for them. Life, existence, is boring.

I have to write a paper on Svidrigailov in Crime and Punishment. I think he is just bored.

  • Too much time to think
Not so long ago the majority of us would have been growing our own food, building our own house, washing/making/mending our clothes by hand, etc. You get the picture. Back then we didn't have time to get bored. These days we have too much time to think and too much time to worry.

  • Drink
Whenever I feel like that, I just drink! My poisoned body then remembers to embrace all the little things I have that make life so wonderful, in spite of the fact "the bigger picture" seems subpar.
