I think it takes place after a spiritual death of sorts.
What are your thoughts on this kind of boredom?

Boring Boorish bored Boor. When a person becomes so bored with existing that even suicide is an option, they aren't really human anymore are they? These could be the sociopaths maybe, no regard for human life. They'd do anything just to not be so bored. They don't have a fixed point of any kind. Life is less inspired for them. Life, existence, is boring.Voted for by Brain Fetus.
I have to write a paper on Svidrigailov in Crime and Punishment. I think he is just bored.

Too much time to thinkNot so long ago the majority of us would have been growing our own food, building our own house, washing/making/mending our clothes by hand, etc. You get the picture. Back then we didn't have time to get bored. These days we have too much time to think and too much time to worry.Voted for by Gaz H.

DrinkWhenever I feel like that, I just drink! My poisoned body then remembers to embrace all the little things I have that make life so wonderful, in spite of the fact "the bigger picture" seems subpar.Voted for by Weydon.

ennuieIt is the continual lacking of anything that can inspire any reaction. Be the reaction good, bad or even terrifying. It is nothing so simple as simply being bored. It is what happens after you have tasted and sampled damn near every experience on this earth and now you can not find a single one to compare to them.Voted for by ennuie.
You begin by constantly trying. Taking risks, seeking experience anything so that you can just feel some sort of emotion other than this complete dispair in life. Than you reach the point where you realise noting will ever work and seem to simply float along in this fatalistic void niether caring or thinking about anything.
Eventually there comes a time when even this becomes to much and you choose to seek that one last experience hoping that in death you might just tast something new, feel something!

Meditate
That's the only way I can keep my sanity in an insane world.Meditating means keeping your mind free of thoughts and experiencing the moment that you are in. I find it tough to do that sitting in a lotus position in my apartment. Rather, it is very easy to do sitting on a park bench with no, or hardly none, people around. Sitting in the sun is also great for me. Do anything to keep you from thinking about the future or the past. Be present and you are meditating. Also, travelling or seeing something new brings your attention to the present. When it gets really tough, like sitting on a subway car, I focus on the lights and reflections of the stainless steel poles and watch the incredible light show taking place.
