When does it end? Never.

I was recently in a political discussion that pointed out the fairly obvious. Comparing the horrible conditions in societies that DON'T have free rights makes us appreciate the rights we do have. Yet on the contrary, it emphasizes why it's important to push for what we want. NEVER voicing your opinion makes it easy to push aside your ability to do so. Makes you in a dictatorship.

Similarly, on this site lately especially, are debates of "Oh how do YOU make morals then (you unGodly person!)?!?!?!" As if it's disgusting and wrong to figure out morals without an invisible, INAUDIBLE figure telling you the morals. That morals can't be figured out without CHOOSING a religion to guide you (otherwise you'd just be...choosing...your morals...or something).

The simple answer is questioning morality and the status quo in general can NEVER end. I, like all, like to think I have a FAIR interpretation on morality. "WHO DECIDES THEN!!! WE ALL MAKE IT UP!!!" you say. So what? We're also all regulating each other AND OURSELVES. The WORST I do is the most ashamed I do, first off. But even if it wasn't, I'm still regulated by other logical challenges.

If EVERYTHING I thought to be a fair and just moral base was made into affect, would I then think it should go unquestioned? Uncountered with a logical query? OF COURSE NOT. Hell, I myself may want to challenge it here and there. But either way, questioning is the only way to evolve. How has anything been made into effect without questioning? How has anything BAD been STOPPED without questioning?

CONSTANT surveillance over ourselves and our rules is the ONLY way to resemble a path of goodness. "Who measures it then!?!?!" the (sorry) religious cry out (I AM religious btw. Just not compared to the "standard" set in this site lol). "Who says what surveillance is right?!?!?" Well, first off I did say CONSTANT. No moment in recorded history, good or bad, can be credited without questioning the regime. Second, WE do. Right now. It's fairly "obvious" and always will be. Most every major religion, even weirdo Scientology and traditionalist-but-still-REALLY-nice-but-not-perfect-by-any-means Buddhism, has been reinterpreted and reinvented to the vehement proclaimers point today.

Just LOOK at what's happening. Look at the situation and decide. Even if what you decide is based upon (your CHOSEN) religious values, it's still an a logical argument you're trying to make.
  • Flip side
When you look at societies that have not had the benefit (?) of religious doctrines regarding morals, you see behaviors that are deemed, by civilized standards, to be abberant. Nudity, cannabalism, living conditions, etc. Humans, left to themselves, without moral guidance, would surely have destroyed the world by now. Having said that, the state of the world today, where everyone goes their own way for their own purposes, is building to that same condition, where we would destroy all life on earth if the messiah did not return to stop it. And it will happen because we have forgotten our creator.

  • Nicely said Weydon
I like what you have said Weydon
Without a voice then there is no freedom at all, only the illusion of freedom which is of no real value at all. We all do not have to always agree on every issue but in respect I believe every side deserves to be heard or as Weydon says you have only a mere dictatorship.

Do you know what true freedom is?? True freedom is when your blood is boiling because someone on another hill is boldly advocating the exact opposite of what you passionately are proclaiming on your hill.

  • actually
that is what i believe... i believe that each one of us have morality built into us by our early life of whats wrong and whats right. whats right is always right that is never the question the question is how can you see what is right in that particular situation. i believe that religion is there to give you your moral base... but you as a person should then question everything for without that we wont grow or evolve to something better. therefore after years of questioning the same thing you come to conclusion that then build your morality even more. in other words beig a good person will always be a plus to you no matter where you are, what religion you are, or what you do. therefore religion doesnt matter how good of a person does... and now i will say that this is exactly what jesus was teaching... remember the good samaritan story he was of a diferent religion therefore a pagan and unclean but he was a good person therefor God must be with him. so religion doesnt matter your believes dont matter what matter is what what you do about it.
