Will punk ever die?

I don’t think that punk rock will ever truly die out. I mean, it almost died in the 80’s but thanks to Greg Graffin of Bad Religion, and Ian McKaye of Minor Threat it didn’t. Punk has just been such a major influence on my life, that i thought i’d start this topic, discuss and post things! Muahahahaha! yeah i’m done now

  • Sort of

The attitude and freedom of punk is already dead. Because there are no true punk attitudes left. Musically it will be alive. But belief wise…gone. Punk was originally about not conforming and rebelling against unfair authority. But now, to be considered punk or even a fan of punk, you have to conform to the looks and everything else. Punk has become what it was against in the first place. A corporate fashion.

  • In a way
Punk used to be about rebellion. The music might never die out, but most so called punks are simply conforming to the image. Don't get me wrong, some punks are still true rebels, but I see more true rebels that are against authority for the right reasons in the "unlabeled" groups. The spirit is out there, the real punk music is out there, but it is not the punk that you see on the streets.

  • Good Charlotte, Green Day, and Other Things Like Mystery

Punk...it's music. Music is always evolving and shifting and changing to meet the ideas of modern-music theory. Most people don't like to admit this, but it's true. The fact is that when punk was first started back in the 80s, it was something that was not usually heard and it was what all of the "bad kids" listened to. Today, all people ever hear about is punk music. Sure, you have your bands like Good Charlotte who change the face of what "punk" really means, and then you have bands like Green Day who remind us of what being punk is about. And we can look at Green Day, Good Charlotte, and numerous others, then see how punk has really evolved since the Ramones. I believe that with the way things are going, punk will evolve bigger than it ever has been. There will, of course, be a time when "punk" will become seriously unhreard of and not-so-popular, but all we can do is remember the bands who really brought out that punk sound we love so much. If we remember those bands, punk will never truly die.

  • It did
When punk was REAL punk, it was crap. Pure crap that some people epitomize into greatness, but can't REALLY tolerate listening to. Just things they cite as examples of what the "roots" to punk are.

Then it died, and remnants are around. Most of the remnants mock what the crap used to be about, because they're poppy stuff.

But I guess some bands, like you said Bad Religion for instance, who believe in what people made "real punk" out to be managed to revive it into something worth listening to.

  • probably not
so long as there are people out there who know what punk is about, and hear the rebel call it won't die. Although I have to say green day calling themselves punk really doesn't help. But if you listen to anarchy in the UK, you can hear the energy of punk in the air around you, and there are bound to always be people who connect with that energy going on
