1. Oh the good old days, when food tasted good, people where nice, the people were smart, the world wasn't overheating, and there weren't so many darn creepy people. Basically, the past was better than the present, and the present is sure to be better than the future.
2. Technology, science, computers, everything is progressing. We are learning new things every day, and constantly moving forward in every area. Even our species is evolving into something better and better. Basically, the past was crap, today is ok, but the future will be wonderful.
So what do you think, is the world declining, is everything getting worse? Or is the world moving forward? Or is there some way to reconcile these 2 ideas in a way that makes sense?

Moving to the BetterI think the world is getting better, people today are more accepting of others than ever before, a trend I hope continues. Communication is better than ever ensuring we can stay in touch more easily.66% Voted for by petethemeat, Weydon.
Music may have been better back then (debatable) but at least now we gain from the good music then and the good music now- giving us a wider selection to listen.
Technology can build on technology, speeding our advancement, using computers to eliminate human error in calculations. You look at how far we have come in 100 years... did things really change even in 300 years from 1000 AD to 1300 AD?
I also think that when people often refer back to the 'good old days' they are remembering what it was like to be young not neccessarily in a better time. In the words of Supertramp 'When I was young it seemed that life was so wonderful, magical oh a miracle'... but do I think the world was a genuinely better place? not really...

not necessarilyI don't think there is any immediate answer to this. First of all, i benefit highly from electricity, and medicine. But do i think that mankind is actually becoming any better? No. I do not think people appreciate what they have because they do not have to work for it like they once did. Technology is also isolating people. Science cannot and never will solve the problems of human nature. I find no real problem in the technological advance as i do what it does to people. I think that all of this is going to blow up on itself. Eventually we are going to go through another dark age. It will be a dark age with technology. A free world without television and heating systems is a better world than an oppressed society with technology. We are still the same old humans we always where. No amount of stuff can take that away from us.Voted for by antsandmoths.

What GOOD OLD DAYS?
I don't understand you can go pretty far back. there has always been a suffering of people. As a whole it's getting worse. Yes information is faster, transportation, and how can you possibly too bored right? But what happened to the important health and environment issues? Spirituality and open-minded individuals as the information keeps flowing? Education for a more stable job is now even harder to get, because of money.
I don't see it
