Cosmologies perchance?

Well, this topic is NOT for anyone who counts themselves as a traditional Theist. I want to know what people aroundabouts this place think of the origins of the universe. You don't have to be an athiest as such to post, just not a theist in any traditional sense - perhaps you take the universe as a brute fact, perhaps you believe in the 'multiverse' hypothesis, perhaps pantheism, polytheism, string theory....whatever it is. I just want to hear what people think about how the universe came about and, if applicable, what was going down before the show got started.
This is NOT an invitation to proselytize, simply to expound, explain and argue. I myself believe in something like "Developmental Theism" as expounded by Peter Forrest and others, so I am disqualified. I have read a lot of cosmology, but I figure there must be views and slants out there that I've never come across.
I can't wait!
Let's go!!

  • Something happened...
I'm pretty sure that something happened causing the universe to be created. I believe it was natural, but I don't believe that what we refer to as 'super natural' is beyond our natural range of perception. I just think we (humans), as a species have been so far removed from our roots. And I don't mean our lineage or some traditional idea of roots, I mean we are not grounded in our own realities. We no longer have our full range of perception because we are no longer tuned in. Is there a god in my world? Many. Do I believe in evolution? Yeah...there are a lot of things I don't trust in science or the government...but I am pretty sure evolution is well supported through a large amount of scientific evidence. If it's not, if there really is a god who made man, and the earth....do I think that he's going to damn me to some imaginary firey hell? No, I think he'd be more concerned with whether I lived my life well. So, I don't know how exactly the universe came into being, nor do I think it need to be explained. I don't think our purpose is actually tied to our origins. I think that's the part we've all been getting wrong for thousands and thousands of years. I do not believe that the creation of the universe is completely random. I do realize though that belief is not supported by any evidence, just some very persuasive philosophical argument.

  • big bang
I'm pretty sure most of the evidence found in space including the microwave background of space which is expanding supports the big bang. Using what we know about the background of space, we know that space is expanding like a balloon, if you will. So if its expanding and we were to go backwards in time then the universe would do the oposite of expanding and get smaller until it's at its source. Question is what was this source. What was everything before the big bang happened I'm pretty convinced of the big bang theory but I'm wanting to know whats before the big bang.

I've heard some theories that matter didn't even exist before the big bang. I have a hard time fathoming and understanding how there can be nothing. Then again, less then 1000 years ago (which is not very long time frame considering space is estimated to be 16 billion years old) people had a hard time fathoming and understanding how the earth could be round. i think within the next 100 years we will know for sure the origins of space. We are living in an exciting time.
