what is the difference between wisdom and intelligence? Some say it is one and the same, not I. Imagine the bishops of a chess game. Two on both sides, equal in size and stature, equal importance in a proper strategy(not my specialty,so dont ask)Both aiming for the same goal, the opponents defeat. Aside from these many differences occur. Even on the same team, these pieces never follow the same path,at times working together on opposite sides of the field, other times following each other side by side, but never the exact same square.Ironically, following this pattern, the first bishop, representing wisdom,is based against the opponents second bishop, intelligence. This is often the same in any case involving the two.Now that you've read my example, what do you think?

No they are not the same
You need wisdom in order to use your intelligence errr wisely LOL. There are plenty of intelligent fools but no wise ones.

wisdom pertains to knowledge or experience.
where as intelligence has more to do with ability to comprehend.
often intelligent people gain wisdom
and wise people are often intelligent.
however they are two different things,
simply symbiotic in nature where as they feed off of each other
the word that refers to the two as one is intellect
think of it terms of age
the older person is often referred to as wise
though someone much younger can be quite intelligent but not wise in the least

I believe intelligence is how much you know. Wisdom is the ability to make the right choice. I guess a little bit of intellegence is required to have wisdom. It would be hard to make the right choice if you don't know your options well.

three prongs not two
there is intelligence wisdom and knowledge they are all very similar one may give you the appearance of the other just like the bishops but intelligence is basically your logic skills how fast you can think of something wisdom is something learned even if you made the right choice you learned that that's what is was and knowledge is the amount of things you know

none of the above
wisdom is knowing when to shut up, speak up, and knowing where you need to be when you are needed.
intelligence allows us to facilitate our known world (correctly or incorrectly has yet to be determined)
essentually your metaphor is correct in more paralells then you now realize. eg. wisdom is often sacrificed for intelligence, both can trap an opponent from two different angles

the difference
I can best sum it up this way
an intelligent man reads and comprehends and retains knowledge, but a wise man puts it to practical use.
for example, a biologist might be able to tell you how to know the difference between a North American Black Bear, and a Grizzly Bear, but a park ranger can tell you how best not to end up as a bear's lunch. A scolar might be able to teach you a foreign langauge, but it takes a guide to teach the customs that go with it.
an engineer might give you the details of a car engine, but a mechanic can show you how to change the oil.

Interesting topic
I found your comparison of wisdom and intellect with bishops in a chess game very interesting. No, I do not believe they are the same thing, (wisdom comes with experience, intelligence comes with knowledge,) but they are both very close in mightiness. I think the question to pose next is 'What would you rather have: wisdom or intellect?' Me? I couldn't tell you...

Diferent
Just like a square is a rectangle but a rectangle is not a square, wisdom needs intelligence to exist, but intelligence doesn't always lead to wisdom. Wisdom is the square, intelligence - the rectangle.

How can you say that there is no such thing as a wise intelligent person?
