Ironic...Isn't it typical of our society how the most closely related religions are the ones that hate eachother the most? Take Christians and Jews, for example- Jesus Christ, the Christian Lord, was a Jew, and yet most hate crimes toward Jews are done by Christians. And Islam, though very similar to Christianity, is hardly a religion most Christians sympathize with. Um.... Mairi? Look, I'm not slamming any religions here, but most "hate crimes" directed toward jews are by muslim radicals in the middle east, mainly in this Israeli/Palestinian conflict. Where are you getting your info? For the majority of Christians and Jews, it's a fairly decent relationship. Perhaps you could cite some factual evidence and documentation suggesting that Jews are hurt more by Christians than muslims.
Also, what is your reasoning to to suggest that Islam is similar to Christianity, more so than Judaism? -
Islam is more similar to Judaism, in my most humble opinion. I mean, no "three part" God, Jummah on Friday for us, sabbath starting Friday evening for the Jews, similar area of origin, similar languages, etc.
The hate crimes I believe Mairi is taking about are mainly European and North American in origin (especially the Southern US), although, last time I checked, the Palestinians and Arabs have yet to kill 6 million Jews in less than 12 years. -

Looking into the histories of all the three Abrahamic religions, it becomes evident that the sects of the same religion has exercised the most henious crimes against the people and groups of their own religion. Let me start from my own religion i.e. Islam. The hypocrites under the most nefarious leadership of Yazid assassinated the holy members of the sacred house of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Almighty Allah be upon him)because the Prophet's grandson Hussain bin Ali Murtaza stood against Yazid's criminal, shameful and bad deeds, malpractices and revelries; which were strictly against the noble teachings of Islam. Yazid and his butchers inflicted worst possible harms on the noble family of the Prophet's grandson Hussain, who was the embodiment of mercy, love, charity, sacrifice, kindness and piousness. Hussain and his seventy two noble companions were kept hungry and thirsty for three days and nights and even his children and noble ladies were not allowed to eat and drink at all. The fourth day, the army consisted of many thousand armed men attacked them, massacred the sacred people of Hussain and made the noble ladies their captives and dragged them in deserts for many hundred miles......!!!!
In the same way, hypocrite Jews attacked their weak fellow-beings, kicked them out of the city and then allowed them to return by paying ransom against it. Also, they opposed almost all the prophets of God, had been sent to guide and teach them. Moreover, they started worshipping golden calf when Moses had gone to receive the Ten Commandments.
The extremist Catholic Christians put the alive poor Protestants into fire and did never repent on it. They also made serious alterations in their basic faith and declared a holy prophet (i.e. Jesus Christ) as the son of God forgetting the very reality that God has neither spouse nor children.
Hence, all the three religions have absolutely forgotten the real teachings of their prophets at all and are going astray in the darkness of disobedience, alterations and sin....!!

As you have stated, both Muslims and Jews look back to Abraham. The problem is that neither follows the teachings of the God of Abraham. The Jews have forgotten their God and Mohammed contradicts the peace of the God of Abraham.

According to the Bible, or at least the first five books, the Torah. Christianity, yes, in that from Genesis to Revelation it does not contradict itself. Having said that, sadly, professing Christians don't follow the Bible either. For example, there is no biblical authority for observing a Sunday sabbath (1st day of the week) over the proper seventh day sabbath, which is from sundown on Friday to sundown on Saturday. Everyone who worships on Sunday is biblically incorrect.

The Deviation in Christianity

Hello Dear All! The first and the foremost obligation of all of us is to give proper respect to all the Holy Prophets sent from Almighty God to guide the humanity. All these noble personalities underwent severest of trials from their people just to convey to us the message of God. Looking into the noble teachings of The last Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (Peace and blessings of Almighty Allah be upon him), we come to know he preached us the same things which have been preached by Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Issac, Jecob, Joseph, Jethro, Moses, Aaron, David, Solomon, Zachariah, John and Jesus--the lessons which we have forgotten altogether. Furthermore, our Holy Prophet did never wage a war on others; rather, he remained only defensive the whole life and delivered the softest of the words to guide humanity. He had to denfend himself from the pagan forces which attacked him many times in Badr, Ohad, Khendeq, Hudaybiya and others. Our Great Prophet did not revenge his foes even he had been bestowed with the power to do so. He pardoned his worst enemies on the Conquest of Makkah,who had inflicted each and every woe, problems and trials and troubles on him and his meek and helpless companions. If you have a thorough and neutral study of his Holy Life,without biasedness and malice, grudge and prejudice, you will come to know how great personality he was. Alas! his followers have forgot the true spirit of his words like the followers of Issac, Moses and Jesus have put aside the teachings of their prophets!!! -

Alas, it is sad that all have gotten away from the one great creator God. As Jesus said at this time of the end it will be as in the times of Noah, when everyone will be doing what is right in their own minds. This will be the casue of great devastation. You are right too, in that God (Elohim - uniplural) is a family not a trinity. The trinity limits God to three, whereas in truth we will all have the potential to be God as God is God. To be sons of God and as such heirs with Christ and co-inheritors of all things. Eventually there will be billions of god beings. All willingly subject to The Father and His Son in perfect harmony. There will be no peace in this age until the return of the Messiah. It would be nice if the world would repent like the people of Ninevah but it won't happen.

Hazrat Muhammad (peace be upon him)
The last prophet of Almighty Allah i.e. Hazrat Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah Almighty be upon him and his house) is the source and symbol of peace, sacrifice, truth, justice, nobility, chastity, kindness, compassion and charity. Looking thoroughly into his sacred life, you will come to know that how great his pious personality was! He forgave even his worst enemies on the conquest of Makkah, who had inflicted every type of pains and sufferings upon him, his sacred house, sacred family and innocent companions. The Prophet Muhammad and his companions were pelted with stones, were rebuked, tortured, abused and thorns and stones were laid on their way; but the Prophet Muhammad did not revenge at all when he conquered the holy city from where he and his noble family was exiled. He forgave all when he overcame Mecca at last.
The Holy Prophet never invaded any land; rather, he always remained defensive whenever he was attacked by the groups of infidels and opponents. He only invaded the areas which were seriously responsible for harming and damaging the true face of Islam or doing mischievious acts and were involved in malpractices of worst kind. You can study the life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad and four members of his noble family including his cousin and son-in-law Hazrat Ali, the Prophet's noble daughter Hazrat Fatima and grand-children Hazrat Hassan and Hazrat Hussain; all the holy five were inflicted with severe troubles, opposition and woes, but they did never surrender from conveying and preaching the message of God. If you have some time, please please study how Hazrat Hussain was martyred by keeping him hungry and thirsty for three days at the bank of the river Euphrates and all his family members were killed including his 6 months old innocent child; and the holy ladies were made captives and were dragged in hot deserts for months to get allegience for the wretched and cruel drankard ruler of that time in 680 A.D. The hypocrite muslims damaged the concept of Islam and the murderer of Hazrat Hussain was also one of the most prominent hypocrites and the offspring of those unholy pagans and infidels who had been strictly against all the holy Prophets sent by God and worshipped the idols made of wood and stone.

The fighting is not from the religion itself. There are plenty of peaceful Muslims and Jews. There are radical sects that believes in worse interpretations that incite mass violence and murder. I doubt any of these people read this site. -
Similarities
All the three Abrahamic religions including Jews, Christians and Muslims seek guidance from one and the same light. But all the three have deviated from the right path. Suicidal attacks have no place in Islam. Similarly attacking on a non-militant is also a serious crime in Islam. One can fight only to defend himself, his life, honour, property, belief and belongings. Similarly, waging a war on others was never with the teachings of either Judaism or Christianity. But all the three have made the earth really a battlefield. We must strive to combat war mania with an iron hand and enter into joint venture to punish those who are responsible for that all.
Furthermore, it is to reveal before you that among all the Heavenly Holy Scriptures, only the Holy Quran is present in its true form; the remaining Holy Books have undergone amendments by the so called priests and scholars, who amended the Books of God for their personal benefits. Many times when I study the Holy Torah and Bible, I find similitude of these Holy Scriptures with the Holy Quran. We must meditate on it.

If I had to say one group maintained purity the most, it would be the Jews, specifically the Kabbalahists. I tend to get along best with them, seeing as I'm a Sufi.
That being said, suicide is considered a sin in Islam (self harm), and often suicide attacks are carried out against women and children, as well as men who are non-combatants. This is EXTREMELY haraam, and I believe Grand Ayatollah Yusef Saaeni said something along the lines of (translated from Farsi):
"Those people who carry out suicide bombings will not go directly to heaven. In fact, it is quite the contrary; they will go directly to the deepest pits of hell."
All that being said, I think anyone who says that one of the three faiths is the only one which may be tolerated is wrong, not only from an ethics standpoint, but also a Qu'ranic standpoint. Many ayah point towards harmony between all of us.
Also, as an addendum, I believe we may also fight to defend those who are being directly attacked and are unable to defend themselves (ex. a woman being raped in the street, a man being beaten by a mob, a child being chased by a pack of stray dogs, etc.), although then it gets into your definition of who is and who isn't defenseless, and what constitutes attacking, but this is another debate.

Pointless fightingI think that fighting on religious grounds is very silly. As far as I know, no religion encourages violence in its teachings, even to people that don't believe in that religion (correct me if I'm wrong). Also, I don't understand why they need to argue over which of the many versions is 'correct'. To me it seems that both Judaism and Islam (and other religions) are totally overcrowded with pointless stigma and rules about when and where to pray, what you can and can't eat, clothes, sex etc. As long as you leave the world a better place than it was before, isn't that what any religion should be aiming for anyway? Ah you have a very utopian idea of religions. There are numerous mentions in the bible of God either striking non-believers or sending his followers to destroy their enemies through genocidal campaigns.
Three old testament figures who justified such killings were Moses, Samuel and Joshua.

Who says that is the goal of religions? You? That certainly is not the point of most religions. To be a Christian means to embrace Christs sacrifice not to carry out humanitarian missions.
There is also the matter or what defines a religion? A sacrificial sect can be included in the status of religion, even if their sole aim is to kill people or unbelievers.
Groupings always cause conflicts, religions especially so. Religions often claim to possess ultimate truth, and by doing so people can only view others without knowledge of such truth as inferior. -
Yeah...unfortunately I guess religions do not put making the world a better place as their main aim...especially not Abrahamic religions, which seem much more focussed on repercussions of their actions in the afterlife (which very well may not exist at all) and less focussed on how things can be improved for everyone in this life, which we can be pretty sure definitely does exist.
I don't pretend to have any real knowledge of the bible, koran or any other holy book, but if it is true that at any point they justify violence towards non-believers, then I think it's just disgusting how anyone can treat that as some sort of divine 'word of God'. -
As I am mystic meg, I know that you are an atheist. Therefore you lack belief in such a deity. However maybe God is destruction? You see God in such a way as one may see Santa Claus, a mythical being that encourages good behaviour.
Why is it not equally as likely that God wishes people or unbelievers dead, as it is that he is benevolent?
Violence occurs all the time- to 'non- believers' of all types. Wars have been thought over not sharing belief, whether that was due to the superiority of the Aryan race, or that Jerusalem belonged to the Christians.
Denounce violence, but do not say that it violent acts are a parody or misinterpretation of true belief, as for all we know they could be interpreting things perfectly. -
Yeah I'm not saying they're definitely not interpreting things perfectly, I'm just saying that since religions are just ideas made up by people, it's highly unlikely that any one of them is correct, considering the huge number of possibilities of what could be true.

Islam is the religion of peace and welcomes humanity to come under the fold of peace, solidarity and truthfullness; Islam is against any violence and condemns attacking on peace-seeking individuals, groups, communities and nations. Since Jews and Christians follow almost the same mythology and tradition which are attributed to Islam, so these two eligions are very close to muslims in prayers, teachings, beliefs and system.Thank you for your valuable contribution.
