Cloning

What is the point of cloning? Many opinions differ on this, some think it will be used for profit, some think it’ll be used for making an army of perfect superhumans, but it was originally intended to be used to enhance drug therapies for hemophelia (a blood disease, can’t clot right) So do you think it’s right or wrong and for what reasons?

  • No real reason for justifing cloning

I believe that human cloning will only open a can of worms. There will be issues of morality, racism (i.e. clones being “inferior” to the originals)... God, the list could go on. Just because we possess the means and ability to perform some feat of science, doesn’t mean we should.

  • "They" can do what they want

I have no interest in being cloned so I won’t participate. I have no concerns about what the rest of you will do.

  • stem cell research?

aren't they getting heaps far with stem cell research? which would replace the need for cloning? like stem cells from the umbillical chord, which removes alot of ethical debate since its stuff we throw away anyway.

  • Bible verses point to it

mutated animals are a prophecy. Not sure if that means cloning or enviromental change, but it is coming soon, is my guess.

  • i don't think...

i don’t think it is fair to clone just to use them for drugs…they will have feelings too and they will be treated as slaves, it would be unfair to treat them like that. how would u like it if you were a clone who could think and feel just as the rest of us do but were locked up to be used to cure other peoples diseases at your own expense…you wouldn’t like it would you.

  • Well

I don’t think the original conception of cloning was merely to help hemopheliacs.

Regardless, I don’t see anything wrong with it in general. I guess it would depend on the purpose of making the clone(s) that would be the moral question. The idea of having or being clone and just jsut having it (or if you were the clone, you yourself) go about society and live you life is more ammoral than anything else.

What specific type and/or intent of cloning are you discussing?

  • The Point?

Perhaps in search of the perfect being. Perhaps in search for "the meaning of life". Would a cloned human being possess or harbour a soul, a mind? Would a cloned human being have the capacity for thought?

  • Playing God

I think that makeing man or any creature is like playing god and that's just wrong. People will abuse the right to clone and maybe make armys or something(I know it sounds paraniod but it could happen). Yea there could be laws and regulations but really you have a super human army at your disposal are laws really going to stop someone bent on world domination? Plus we are all different and to make some one exactly the same as another person in every aspect (in an unnatural means) defys the laws of nature.

  • Non-Uniqueness

Cloning is a very controvesial thing. In my opinion, though, cloning is just a way for the governement to take away our uniqueness, so they don't have to deal with differences. The government doesn't care if cloning is banned, they'll just come up with another way to take away our individuality.

  • If there was a better way of achieving it...

Anyone can admit that human cloning has its good points. Because it does. Some people may become really sick and need organs to help them survive. Who would be better to give them the exact organ they need than their clone? Of course, it may seem like a good plan but most people don’t know what it would take to clone one single person, and most scientists don’t want to admit it. According to an article I read called “Good grief, Snuppy”, there is a really horrific story behind how Snuppy, the first dog ever cloned, came to be. In order to clone the dog, over 123 dogs were placed in laboratories and surgically impregnated. Only three of them were successfully impregnated. Out of those three, two of them actually delivered. The only one of the two that survived was Snuppy. So basically, hundreds of animals had to suffer leading to the birth of only one animal. Imagine how many humans would have to die just to clone one. If they can make a better way to clone someone, fine, go for it. But I say it's wrong at the moment.
