Born Gay ?

Do you think that you can be born Gay ? Or do you think it is influenced by things and situations and events around you?? What are your thoughts on this. Yes, I am fully aware of John 3:16. That isn't the question. My question just is if you think people are born gay or not.
  • Different Brain Structures
There is some evidence from neuroscience that homo- brains are structured differently than hetero- brains. Look into Simon LeVay's research.

The problem is hard because there is quite a lot of diversity in gay adults. Further, I believe a lot of people who identify as "hetero" may have some homo attractions but are stifled because they are condemned by much of our culture. That is not to say "everyone's gay", but that sexual attraction (what turns us on) and gender roles (how we court and interact with mates) is much more a man-made artifact than anything biological.

Finally, self-identifying oneself as gay is a bold move that has meaning. I suspect there are many people who are only slightly more attracted to their same sex than the opposite sex, yet choose a "straight" way of life simply because they believe it is much easier (would it really be?) and is widely accepted.

  • I think
Most gay people, especially gay men, are born gay. But I do not find it impossible that someone with an open mind was able to make themselves bisexual.

I say it's more likely for a female, born straight, to turn towards the same gender because it is more accepted societally.

  • Well...
I think people are born gay. Yes you may have certain differences being raised by a gay family but I cant imagine surroundings haveing anything to do with that. I do think if you were raised in a strictly male or female environment and were molested or raped by those people that it may have a different effect on you but you could still be able to identify what youve always known. That kind of thing is engraved in us. I find it nuts to think that people can just "switch teams" in the middle of their lives. Theres always an underlying attraction. They may not want to accept it themselves so they suppress it. Why would anyone want to choose a life of constant ridicule and mocking?

  • Nurture vs. Nature
I do believe that people have genetic dispotions to be gay and that environemtal factors may more-so bring those out. Nurture and nature play important roles in the way a person lives their life, but in this case, I think nature is a larger determining factor.

It is so hard for me to comprehend the fact that so many people think that gay people choose to be gay. Why in the world would any sane person choose to become an object of hatred and ridicule? Duh!
