  • meet the new boss he's the same as the old boss!
you do realize that nobody follows the Talmudic law anymore? oh sure a few fundamentalists would like to see me( a gay man) follow it. so in an effort to stop someone from imposing his will on me you would impose your will instead. lol has atheism become a little jealous cult who bans or rewrites books as it sees fit?
if some one chooses to worship God will you denounce them as a heretic? what should be the penalty if i hide a copy of the bible in my house? oh come on now bans don't do any good unless you have some really stiff penalties. how will you find my unaltered copy of the bible? will you brake down my door? if you find my bible will you then try to get me to tell you who has other bibles. will you set up a secret police to make sure no one has bibles? while your doing all this will you tell me it's for my own good. maybe try to get me to renounce my evil christian ways?

    There's nothing in the street
    Looks any different to me
And the slogans are replaced, by-the-bye
And the parting on the left
Is now the parting on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
    Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
    We don't get fooled again
    Don't get fooled again
    No, no!

    YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

    Meet the new boss
    Same as the old boss

THE WHO - don't get fooled again

  • I am steadfastly against many of the teachings and concepts described in the Bible. I think it should either be scrapped entirely or heavily rewritten.
(The following quotes were taken from the King James edition of the Holy Bible.)

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them.” – Leviticus 20:13

“Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.” – Exodus 22:18

“And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.” – Exodus 21:17

“Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s house, thou shalt not covet they neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his his maidsevrant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor’s.” – Exodus 20:17

“A man also or a woman that hath a familiar spirit, or that is a wizard, shall surely be put to death: they shall stone them with stones: their blood shall be upon them.” – Leviticus 20:17

“And the man that committrth adultery with another man’s wife, even he that committeth adultery with his neighbor’s wife, the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.” – Leviticus 20:10

So, tell me, how can we trust the moral groundings of a people and/or culture that promoted murder, slavery, and male supremacy? Surely, no good Christian would uphold these snippets of text as truth, nor would they execute the same punishments on other people—however, with what I have seen and heard of the actions of the “Religious Right” and their prejudice, hate, and fear, it would not surprise me that, without the laws of modern society, would indeed practice them without regret, just like the people of the Middle East do to their homosexuals.

  • Culture
I never believe that scrapping/banning anything is acceptable, unless it is directly life-threatening to certain people. In this case, scrapping the bible would only mean the destruction of a piece of christian culture.
Even if you're not a christian, still you should need this book. If you can learn about different beliefs, their negative aspects, as pointed above, but also their positive, you can form a worthy ethical meaning for yourself.

  • why not do away with all laws?
since some people seem to find biblical laws inconvenient, why not do away with all laws? that way whatever you feel like doing, hey, just do it! You want that nice, fancy Porsche that belongs to someone else? No problem! Just shoot him in the head and take the keys! You like that hot looking babe? Go get her! if she fights, just mace her in the face, and tie her up. she'll stop kicking when she loses consciousness. There is no need for any morality or laws, apart from protecting those who cannot protect themselves, so why not go back to the good old days of total anarchy?

...of course, this would mean that you would have no recourse when somebody decided to victimize you, right?

...but at least there would be no laws to impede you doing whatever you wanted.

here's a thought. Did you ever wonder why those laws you protest so were written in the first place? don't you think that maybe they are there to protect people, and not just to deprive them of pleasure? Could it possibly be that maybe the things described therin are BAD for you?

  • This is nothing but religious intolerance
If you scrap the Bible, you scrap Christianity. Is there a problem with my religion that you'd like to discuss with me face to face?

No one follows these teachings anymore. They're just like historical documentaries.

Rewriting the Bible is the communist way of dealing with a religion or idea that you don't like. Whatever happened to religious tolerance?

And there are plenty of parts of the Bible that teach faith, strength, discipline, courage, and many life virtues that society has lost! Maybe you could benefit from reading some the Book yourself.

"Keep alert, stand firm in your faith, be courageous, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love...The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. My love be with all of you in Christ Jesus." - 1 Corinthians 16.13-14, 23-24

  • What a waste...
I would not scrap it. I would view it as a history book of sorts. I would advice however, for people not to take it in a literal sense. If we were to consider scrapping all controversial writings, there would be no libraries left, hence a throw back to the medieval days.

It as pity however that when left to personal interpretation, religious extremists use the bible as a means to justify their narrow mindedness and vile prejudices. Sad but true.
